Pastor got a call for help from a mom desperate for baby formula — his compassionate response started a powerful chain reaction
Certain acts are just a pure definition of humanity. You don’t need to think twice before helping someone with basic needs. A mom named Nikalie Monroe (@nikalie.monroe) was testing whether people would keep up this humanitarian act of helping feed a starving baby. When the mom called up the Heritage Hope of God Church in Kentucky and posed the same question to them, the pastor’s response awakened a global act of kindness that instantly assured the mom. Monroe explained that she had been calling several churches to ask whether they would help struggling parents and feed a hungry child. Her TikTok page has several videos of her contacting different churches in hopes of getting baby formula.
According to her, if anyone is asked for help with feeding a baby, they should instinctively respond and provide the best they can. The mom noted that she would, without a doubt, find the person, get resources and help out if someone contacted her with a need for baby food. According to the U.S Government Accountability Office, around 40% of all American babies get formula through a food assistance program for low-income mothers and children—the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics added that the price of baby formula has risen by 125.63% in 2025 as compared to 1997.
The average inflation rate has been increasing by 2.96% per year, making it difficult for many parents to afford the most basic and essential elements for infants. Monroe called the church pastor, Johnny Dunbar, of the Heritage Hope of God and shared her request, per Whiskey Riff. The mom explained that she had a 2-month-old and ran out of formula and needed help. The pastor asked for the woman’s details and asked what exactly she needed and how much she needed. The mom continued the conversation, answering the pastor’s questions. The pastor comforted the woman and assured her he’d try his best to get her the formula.
@nikalie.monroe Sorry people kept calling in and knocking my recording off and it was also a really long call. But this is Heritage Hope Church of God. Such a sweet soul this guy and the fact he was willing to even go get it himself made my heart melt. Loved it. 😍 #fypage #foryou #fypシ #fypシ゚viral #foryoupage #viral #viralvideo #trending #capcut #duet #wethepeople #forthepeople #wakeupamerica #worldtok #worldnews #veteran #church #churches #familiesinneed #experiment #God #religion ♬ original sound - Nikalie 🌈
He noted that he himself was a great-grandpa and knew how important it was for her to feed her baby. He even asked if she had any preferences or specifications. Monroe finally came clean and revealed that she was just testing him. “You just touched my heart,” he said. The pastor assured the woman that he’s always going to be trying to help his people. The duo got into a heartfelt conversation where the pastor mentioned that he was aware that many people are surviving on SNAP benefits, food stamps and through other means and so help means everything. According to WKYT, the church was a small one, with only 100 members, trying to figure out funds for itself. For the pastor to still reach out, it awakened a light in many, including atheists and people all over the world.
The woman herself mentioned that she doesn’t go to church but to see the kindness and selflessness the pastor had to offer left her mesmerized. People poured love in the comments and also donated to the church. @burtonphx wrote, “Do I go to church? No. Did I donate $100 because I have full faith that it will go to God’s pantry? 100%. This grandad, come hell or high water, he was going to get you that formula, ma’am.” @gaylenerli added, "$20 donation from this atheist.” In a follow-up video, Monroe revealed that she met pastor Dunbar at the church and he was delighted with the donations and the love. “It’s blown me away. I prayed for years. Let our little church touch the world,” he said. Receiving over $95,000 in donations, the pastor said it couldn’t have come at a better time. Struggling families can enjoy the holiday season, all thanks to generosity.
