Stranger sitting alone paid for everyone's breakfast and left server a $1500 tip — his heartbreaking reality made him do so
Kindness can stem from the most random to special reasons. A thought, an experience or a relationship with a loved one might prompt someone to selflessly do good for others. A man, identified as Briggs, shared an overwhelming act of generosity that came from a heartbreaking past, as per NBC. At Denny’s restaurant in Utah, Briggs turned the life around of a server with his “odd request” and selfless gesture.
The story was shared in a Facebook post from Love What Matters along with a picture of the man. “Today, I met an angel. You came into a Denny’s I work at in Utah. You asked me, ‘Can I have a waitress who is a single mother?’” the post read. The server obliged despite the unusual request and had the man sit in the area being served by Crystal, a single mother. What followed next got even more unusual and heartbreaking. Briggs sat in the booth for around 2 hours. He barely ordered anything but paid the bill for around 7 families present at the restaurant. Paying over $600, the server couldn’t help but ask why he chose this mind-boggling gesture.
“I asked, 'Why did you do that?' You simply said, ‘Family is everything, I’ve lost all mine,’” the server recalled. She noticed the pain in the man’s eyes as he spoke and couldn’t help but rush and break down in tears. The post further explained that the man even left a $1500 tip for the server along with his $21.34 bill. “I just wanted to let you know, that the waitress Crystal that you requested was living in a shelter with her son until she was able to save up enough to get a place. Because of you, she gets her new place next week, because of you 7 families ate for free,” the post added. Sharing why he chose to be served by a single mother and give away this generous tip, Briggs explained that he knew the struggle.
Having been raised by a single mother, along with 5 other siblings, things were challenging. "I watched and suffered for years as I watched her work her hands to the bone to give us a good life. She raised us to be kind and help others. Many years down the road, I was facing prison and getting in trouble. It ended up causing me to lose my family because I was a terrible person,” Briggs recalled. These unfortunate events pushed him to change his life for the better. “Now I’ve been helping others as I was raised to do. Now, it's time to pay it back,” he added.“Crystal told me she prayed the night before for a miracle and God sent you," the post read. Though Briggs left before they could thank him, they extended a heartfelt gratitude in the post. It read, “You’re truly an amazing person and you stole the hearts of every one of us here. Thank you." This bittersweet story is what humanity and life are all about.
