Wendy’s worker rang a woman’s doorbell during her lunch break with an unusual request — what followed took the encounter somewhere neither expected

The timing was perfect because both women needed someone to be kind to them on a difficult day.

Kindness can bring even complete strangers closer, reminding us that compassion knows no boundaries. TikTok user Abigail Mwaungulu, who goes by @abigailsauthentic, shared footage on July 17, 2026, which showed she was at home when a Wendy’s worker named Dara walked up to her door and asked one question. When Mwaungulu answered, the simple interaction quickly took on a life of its own. The moment has since been viewed more than a million times and, as WPBF 25 News later reported, sparked an unexpected friendship between the two women. Neither of them could have guessed where that one little question would lead.

The doorbell camera captured the moment Dara, who worked at the Wendy’s nearby, walked up to Mwaungulu’s home while carrying her lunch. She explained that she was on her break but didn’t want to walk all the way home, so she took a chance and asked if she could sit on Mwaungulu's porch and eat. From inside the house, Mwaungulu initially wondered why a Wendy’s worker was standing at her door, but once Dara explained, she simply told her, "Yeah, that’s fine." That small "yes" turned into something neither woman expected. After Mwaungulu posted the video on TikTok, it went viral; the two women eventually met in person, and a stranger asking for a place to sit and eat lunch became the beginning of an unexpected friendship.

In an interview with WPTV, Mwaungulu said, "I was having a rough day as well, and I wanted someone to be kind to me." At first, she thought the woman might have been delivering food because she noticed the Wendy’s uniform and lunch bag. Mwaungulu was relieved when she realized Dara had trusted a stranger enough to ask for help, and she later felt that the moment meant something to both of them. Dara told her that work had been stressful; she had become overwhelmed and walked out with her food, planning to calm down before returning. Since she didn’t want to walk all the way home, she decided to ask Mwaungulu, a woman whose house she often saw while walking to work.

The story didn’t end with that first lunch break. After seeing how much the moment had resonated with people, Abigail decided she wanted to do something for Dara, so she went to Target and put together a gift basket filled with snacks, self-care items, a water bottle, an umbrella, a portable charger, a handheld fan, and a Chick-fil-A gift card. In a follow-up video, she explained that some viewers had also reached out to support the gift.

The outlet reported that the kindness had grown beyond Mwaungulu, with hundreds of people wanting to help Dara after learning more about her situation. Mwaungulu also started a GoFundMe page to help Dara with her everyday expenses and education. A little act of kindness can sometimes begin a lasting friendship. In another similar incident, a woman stopped to help a 97-year-old stranger struggling to get around in the heat.

TikTok user Estrella Quiroz offered the elderly woman, Lilian, a ride, bought her lunch, and soon discovered they had a shared connection to Nicaragua. They soon became friends with Estrella, even calling Lilian her “new 97-year-old bestie.” She later started a fundraiser to help Lilian and had friends check in on her while she was away. Like Mwaungulu and Dara, two strangers who might have otherwise never met ended up forming a friendship because one person decided to stop and help.
