Woman approached a stranger at a gas station thinking he needed help with the pump — what he did as she got closer sent her fleeing to her car
Interacting with strangers is risky business, and it's better to trust instincts. One woman named Chelsea Metzger, who goes by @unfilteredyenta on Threads, witnessed one such horrifying reality. In her post dated October 7, 2026, she mentioned she was at the gas station when a man yelled to her, asking for help. She shut her door and started walking to him until she saw something unexpected. That minute detail convinced her things were not safe, and she ran back to her car.

At first, she noticed the man looking at her from a distance. She went about her business, and just before she was about to get back in her car, he called out to her. He muttered some words from a distance before adding that he needed her help. She assumed he didn’t know how to work the pumping machine, and started walking over. Suddenly, the man went to the back of his vehicle and opened the trunk. At first, Metzger thought his can might be in there, and he wanted fuel, but when she saw the trunk was empty, her instinct kicked in. Without skipping a beat, she turned around, ran to her car, got in, and drove away.

As she went back and locked her doors, the man’s demeanor changed. He began abusing her and yelling at her. He even said, “Consider yourself lucky.” However, the woman didn’t wait for him to finish speaking; she just drove off. She never saw the man in the area again. Looking back, she was terrified to think what a drastic turn a routine stop before the office could have taken. She was just getting her morning coffee, and had it not been for that gut feeling, it’s scary to imagine what might have unfolded. Sharing a report about similar happenings across different areas, the woman urged others to be wary and vigilant. “It's happening, and it's happening everywhere. Trust your gut. Be aware of your surroundings,” she wrote. Whether it’s the gas station, the bus, train, or even a store, even crowded spaces are not spared.

In another frightening instance, a woman recalled how she made a narrow escape after she noticed men following her around Target. She pretended to look around and delay leaving the store, but the person kept walking behind her while buying nothing. When she realized stalling him didn’t work, she decided to walk out. When she entered the parking lot, he was still behind her, so she made an unexpected move to catch him off guard. She rolled her bag in her hand, tilted her head, and began smiling weirdly while staring at him. She made it feel awkward and started following him. “The stalker is being stalked because I’m stalking you now. I'm going to be creepy to you now,” she recounted. Unable to comprehend the situation, the man got worried and hurried to his car. She took her chance, got into her car, and gave him a hard stare from there until he drove away.
