Woman asked for upgrade because she didn’t want to sit next to passenger and her dog — the flight attendant moved the dog to first-class instead

The passenger was unwilling to share the same row without giving a valid reason, and the flight attendant knew just how to handle it.

Traveling in a flight requires passengers to be accommodating and kind enough to share the space with others. Chantal Rochelle, who posts on Threads as @chantalrochelle, recently shared an opposite experience while traveling with her pet. In a post dated March 22, 2026, the woman recalled an interaction with another traveler. The latter was adamant about not sitting beside Rochelle and insisted on getting an upgrade. What happened next left her praising a flight attendant for the way she handled the situation.

Rochelle shared that she boarded her flight with her 8-pound Maltipoo. As she settled into her seat with her little pet, the lady sitting beside her made it clear that she did not want to sit with her and her dog. The passenger gave no valid reason for wanting a switch and demanded that the flight attendant help upgrade her seat. According to the post, the crew member listened to her request and said, "One moment," and walked away. The employee came back after a few minutes, and what she said left the traveler shocked. Instead of changing her seat, she upgraded Rochelle and her dog straight to first class. “The look on her face belonged in a museum,” the woman said.

Rochelle said the unexpected upgrade came as a heartwarming surprise. She then praised the flight attendant for stepping in and making sure she and her Capri had a good trip. It could have been that the woman was not comfortable with canines, but she made no such mention. According to Delicious, data from a survey by Upgraded Points revealed that around 34% of non-pet owners said they wouldn't want to share a cabin with another person's furry pal. Yet, 57% of the group said they would rather sit beside an animal than a child to guarantee a smoother journey.

Data from the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health revealed that 6% of dogs in the U.S. board flights with their owners every year. Canines make up the highest percentage (58%) of the traveling animal population. While seat disputes are very common on flights, this one drew mixed reactions in the comments. Many noted how her entitled request for an upgrade was rude, while others suggested she may have had allergies. @frhhi25 said, "I would have asked to be moved. Not upgraded. I have severe allergies to dog hair." @snark_kitty remarked, "She already had a 'pupgrade'and asked for an inferior upgrade? What a silly lady." @sincerelysoulaan added, "This woman was entitled and was bothered by more than just the dog."
