Woman assumed a ‘goth’ 45-year-old didn’t belong in first class and called her out while boarding — her simple response left her red-faced
A person’s appearance barely tells their entire story, and if you’re going to judge just by looks, it's going to end badly. A Reddit user who goes by u/Scary-Alternative-11 shared a post on December 7, 2025, recalling how one unruly passenger did just this on a flight from Washington State to Washington, D.C. The woman saw her boarding first class and called her out, assuming she accidentally arrived there. The reason for her assumption? Her “goth” getup. Later reported by PEOPLE, it was revealed that as soon as she learned on what grounds she was being judged, she shot back with a simple but bold reply.
The 45-year-old revealed that she was traveling with her sister. She noted how she has a goth style when it comes to dressing — all black clothing, black long hair, etc. While boarding, she accidentally dropped her purse and, while picking it up, encountered a fellow passenger. The latter stopped her and pointed out that only first-class flyers were being called to board. “I wanted to call her so many names, but I kept calm,” she recalled. She got the “ultimate satisfaction” by simply showing her boarding pass on her phone and saying, “I'm pretty sure seat 1A is first class.” She asked the traveler to excuse her and noticed how she got red-faced.
Even though her appearance didn’t seem like she was someone who travels in a premium setting, the woman noted that she was a successful business owner. Since she has restless leg syndrome, while flying, she prefers an arrangement where others are not disturbed and often books first-class. Yet, the fellow passenger chose to be quick to judge, and her own actions came back to bite her. Later, when the woman told her older 51-year-old sister what happened, even she shot a stare at the stranger, leaving her feeling ashamed all over again. Commenters were equally satisfied with the move. u/MarionBerryOk2874 said, “That’s a ridiculous assumption on her part; what sweet revenge.” u/Solid_Assumptions7160 remarked, “I usually respond to people like that with, ‘Yes I know, I'm not stupid.’” u/Fuzzy_Laugh_1117 added, “Lucky for her, you chose decorum over retribution.”
It doesn’t take much to mind one’s own business, and if you’re really worried about something, maybe ask in a better way or do a more thorough check before making assumptions. In another instance, a woman with a baby began yelling when a man was taking too long to pre-board. He was disabled and had only one arm working. Yet, the mom made an assumption and said, “Just because you’re first class doesn’t mean you can pre-board.” He explained his reason, and that he had recently had a stroke, and instead of apologizing, the woman scoffed, “And I’m handicapped too!” She refused to show any humanity and continued mocking the passenger, insisting he hurry, before making her way to her seat. “Having people like her accuse me of not being disabled is next-level ignorant and mean,” he said. Yet, he chose not to escalate the situation to avoid any further hassles for fellow travelers.
