Woman 'bored' at work visits her grandparents’ house on Google Maps — a stunning discovery left her crying at desk
Everyone may have the curiosity to look up their home address on Google Maps and see what appears. The idea of visually getting a glimpse of the place you’ve been in physically, on the internet is satisfying. If you browsed Google Maps, you may have seen your home, the roads, trees and other unique features. However, a woman who goes by u/subliminalwish revealed that she spotted something that moved her to wholesome tears. The woman had decided to look up her grandparent’s house on Google Maps. Little did she know, she would be rewarded with something more than just a house and roads.
Sharing some background, the woman mentioned that she was bored at work and casually decided to look up her hometown on Google Maps. She added that she had not visited the place for 3 years and wanted to get a visual image of how things are. As she looked up at the place, she was immersed in a wave of nostalgia. Looking at the streets she walked, the houses she’d visited and other elements, she was instantly taken aback. However, there was one more heartwarming sight that is now etched in her heart. “I worked out my path from my old school to my grandparents' house in street view and saw him sitting on the porch.” As soon as she saw her grandfather’s picture in that image, she was taken back in time.
The woman mentioned that her grandfather was sick around 2015 and would often sit on his porch in the same way as the visual. However, the following year, his condition began to worsen. Unfortunately, the grandfather passed away and the woman didn’t get a chance to meet him or say goodbye. Seeing him there on that porch in the picture must have been a bittersweet feeling, now shaped into a core memory. “The image is kind of blurry but it's unmistakably him. Seeing him there just gave me all sorts of emotions and I'm trying so hard to hide the fact that I'm crying at my desk. I hope he's doing okay. I miss him a lot,” she remarked.
The woman couldn’t help but be moved to tears, recalling the times and the bond she shared with the late man. “He was my first father figure because my dad was away a lot and we had so many good memories together. Hug your loved ones and tell them you love them as often as you can!” she wrote. People’s hearts melted over the rewarding sight the woman was able to experience one more time. Many shared their experiences. u/ZolaThaGod wrote, “I just lost my aunt to pancreatic cancer in June. This post made me check Google Earth. Sure enough, there she is. I still can’t wrap my head around the idea that someone can be here one moment, then gone forever.”
u/winkytinkytoo added, “My mom is sitting on the porch of my parent's former home on Google Maps. I'll have to screenshot it. Thanks for the idea to do so.” u/CJoriginals mentioned, “Sending all my love, I can't imagine how hard that was but I'm really glad you shared this story with us.” u/creative-block418 added, “This is so cool, please please screenshot it just in case.”
