Solo camping offers a sense of freedom, but it also requires extra awareness of your surroundings. A travel content creator named Katie Grant was spending time alone in the woods when she noticed a young couple searching for their missing ring. The pair seemed harmless to her, but the man kept returning to the same area near her to look for the jewelry. Grant even offered her help, but he constantly refused, so she left the scene without thinking much of the interaction. However, later in the night, a random text message from an unknown number made her realize she was now in an unsettling situation. She shared the details of the incident in an Instagram video on Sunday, August 9, 2026, under her handle @femdecoded.

The strange feeling became clearer when the man contacted her later that day, saying, "Hey Katie, thanks for helping us earlier," and asking if they could come to her campsite to grab some drinks together. The Instagram user was shocked by the random text message, recalling how she never gave the young man her phone number. When she asked how he got it, he first said it was on her vehicle and later mentioned her Instagram handle. She then checked with a friend who shared that getting information through the social media platform is not possible, further making her feel uneasy. He later even invited her for a moonlight hike, but she declined, her instinct telling her something was definitely wrong.

Around 2 a.m., she woke up after hearing movement outside her truck, and the sight left her frightened for her safety. She noticed a man's figure outside in the dark and realized it was the same young man from before. She confronted him and asked him what he was doing there, and he told her, "I fell into the river, and I need a towel." The man later ran away as Grant questioned why he didn't ask for help directly instead of lurking around her vehicle.

Grant immediately contacted the number she got the text from and told him that approaching a woman who was camping alone at such a late hour was not appropriate. In an update clip, she revealed she later involved the local police as well. The young man had informed her he had fallen off a cliff during his hike, injured his ribs, and needed help; hence, he came to her. But the officers reported no such record of an injured person being taken for medical assistance. Around 5 a.m., the police escorted Grant out of the woods and searched the area. She emphasized she still doesn't understand where the man got her number from.

Traveling solo as a woman has its own dangers. In another incident, a late-night airport wait turned frightening when a woman was approached by three strangers asking her about her trip. One man stood "directly in front" of her, while another woman demanded, "My friend asked you where you are traveling to?" She eventually was able to run away and report it to security. The airport officials later revealed how security camera footage showed the group following her and targeting her the moment she stepped into the airport.
