Woman canceled a date after her match said 'see you at 7:30' instead of offering a car in the rain — the internet is divided

Dating expectations differ from person to person. However, some preferences can tick people off the wrong way. Instagram user Savannah Pagnozzi had some non-negotiables, too. The woman was ready to go on a date with a man who had taken serious efforts to make reservations and plan everything. Sharing in her post on May 25, 2026, under her handle, @savannahpagnozzi, she revealed how she ultimately canceled the date for one unexpected reason. Later reported by The New York Post, after hearing her explanation, the internet is debating dating standards today.

Pagnozzi met a man the weekend prior and hit it off. He asked her out on a date and gave her all the details of the reservation he had booked. However, since it had been raining, she expected him to send a car over to pick her up. To her surprise, when she confirmed whether he'd send a ride, he indirectly refused. He simply said, "Haha, see you 7.30." After that reply, she immediately canceled the date. He, in turn, decided to cancel the reservation. The woman noted that being sent a car was considered "bare minimum." She explained that if it wasn't pouring, she wouldn't mind taking the train. Yet, she strongly believed that men should "at least offer" a ride, whether or not women take up the offer.

According to Psychology Today, psychotherapist and relationship expert, Caitlin Cantor, explained that first dates are less about expectations and hopes and more about discovering the reality and learning about the person. While you may have a lot to tick off on the list, it is important to realize that not everything is revealed in one go. In this case, the woman was stuck to her non-negotiables rather than understanding her potential date. It is also good to point out that a list is far different from a boundary. While it's okay to be flexible with the former, the latter shouldn't be compromised.

Pagnozzi's post gained divided opinions from the internet. While many users supported her decision, others criticized her for setting unrealistic expectations@alexjohngill wrote, "Please stop normalizing this behavior. He's paying for dinner." @charliepellettnyc commented, "Is sending a car now a part of dating etiquette in New York City? I have never heard my single friends, male or female, mention it." @jahfree wrote, "Let's give it up to this guy. How he just responded, 'Okay, I'll cancel the reservation.' No argument, no 'why,' no ask of her to explain herself. He just calmly walked away." @rivera_yulie contradicted a majority and said, "This was my #1 rule when I lived in NYC. No ride, no date." @wilsonaesthetic suggested, "It’s not about the money, it’s about a man who is willing to make the woman he’s interested in more comfortable."
