Woman having ‘worst week’ away in college was stunned by dad’s unusual request—it turned out to be just what she needed

Many of us have dreadful days where even existing feels exhausting. With so much going on in life and hustling every single second to make it, we often find ourselves beat, too tired to carry on. A woman named Olivia Thompson (@oliviathompson25) was having one of these days, as per a video she shared on TikTok. A couple of things had caught her mind and she was having a hard week. As she silently dealt with it, she was interrupted by her dad’s unusual request over a phone call. She decided to help him out with this mundane plea but was instead met with something that instantly gave her reassurance. It was coincidentally just what she needed.

The woman recalled having the “worst week” of her life. "My birthday was a few days away and I was trying to stay positive because we were celebrating in the upcoming days," Thompson mentioned. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to cheer her up and she was exhausted by the idea of even thinking about it. She kept to herself, feeling miserable all on her own. The senior at Michigan State University was interrupted from her downward spiraling thoughts by a sudden phone call from her dad, Newsweek reported. He had no idea his daughter was down; instead, he was calling with his own request.

In the middle of her bleak feelings, her dad asked her to check if a package had accidentally arrived at her home. "He called me saying he might've accidentally sent a package to me at my sister's house in East Lansing instead of my family's house and asked if I could go check," she revealed. Though she felt horrible, it was a casual request from her dad, who knew nothing of what she was feeling. So Thompson genuinely agreed to check the door for him. The video revealed a Ring camera footage of the woman arriving at her doorstep to look out for the package.

As soon as she opened the door, she saw her dad standing there, waiting with a warm smile. "He was standing right there. It was the best surprise ever and exactly what I needed,” she remarked. Her dad had made the 100-mile drive all the way to get her brother, who is also a Michigan freshman. Call it a coincidence or a parent’s whim, he decided to check on her, too. There he was — at the right time at the right place. “After what felt like a thunderstorm of a week, he felt like the rainbow that came after,” Thompson exclaimed. She greeted her dad with the warmest hug because this seemingly little gesture meant more to her.

"He has always done little things like that for my sister, brother and me throughout our entire lives," she recalled. To her luck, the Ring camera captured the encounter, giving her something to look back on. “It was a brief moment, but I spent almost an hour crying tears of joy watching the footage because of how lucky I felt to have such a selfless dad. I still watch it at least once a day and it still makes me emotional watching it," Thompson added.
