Woman missed boarding her Delta connecting flight and found the gate closed — the agent's bizarre advice helped her get on the plane
Not every solution makes sense at first, but staying open to advice can lead to results you didn't expect. Something similar unfolded for a journalist named Christina J. Harris when she thought she had missed her flight. She shared her experience on Instagram under her handle @christinajharristv on September 30, 2026. Harris was traveling from Tampa to Pensacola with a layover in Atlanta. Her first flight from Tampa to Atlanta was delayed, making her think she wouldn't make her connecting flight to Pensacola. She rushed to the gate, only to find that she had missed boarding Delta's connecting flight and the gate was closed. But then a gate agent said something that helped her get on the flight.
Harris recalled how she and another woman she had met on her first flight missed boarding their connecting Delta flight to Pensacola. She ran, but as she reached the gate, she saw on the screen that boarding was closed. On the Delta app, she saw that she had been booked on the next flight that night, which left in three hours. While waiting at the gate, she heard a gate agent say, "Stand at the window and wave." After about five minutes of waving, they were still uncertain whether they would make the flight. Suddenly, the gate agent told them, "Come on." Harris explained that she wasn't sure what he meant, but then he signaled for them to board the Delta flight from Atlanta to Pensacola.

The journalist shared that she had to wave with both hands to get the pilot's attention. They then allowed her and the other woman to board the flight even though boarding had closed. Harris gave a shoutout to Delta for its kind consideration, emphasizing that one should never give up. Before concluding, she said, "Your miracle is on the way. You can't give up too quickly."
Harris also mentioned that after learning she had missed the flight, the woman with her went to the bathroom, then got a snack while she waited at the gate. Using her copassenger as an example, she highlighted that while it's easy to give up, it's important to wait and trust God for a breakthrough. Although she arrived in Pensacola two hours late, she ultimately made it onto the same flight she thought she had missed, and it all happened because she didn't give up.

When passengers lose hope of making their flight, a gate agent's quick thinking can give them another chance. In another incident, a passenger realized they had forgotten their laptop in the cab after reaching the airport. They called the driver and then reached out to the gate agent for help. When they informed the employee about their situation, she offered to hold the passenger's boarding pass at the desk as they rushed to retrieve the laptop. They hurried back after collecting it and made it on time before boarding closed.
