Woman overheard a coffee shop job interview that sounded ‘too good to be true’ — then quietly slipped the candidate a warning note
Not every job that seems attractive at first turns out to be the right choice after careful thought. This is what one woman realized after overhearing an interview while she was in a coffee shop. Canadian entrepreneur and content creator Eliza Trendiak explained in an Instagram video shared under her handle @elizatrendiak on June 6, 2026, what happened after she thought the conversation seemed "too good to be true." She then gave a note to the interviewee in hopes of helping her make the right decision.
Trendiak revealed that from the very start, the interview seemed more like a sales pitch around claims that seemed difficult to believe. Instead of discussing a regular job role, the interviewer launched into a long business presentation filled with promises of financial freedom, travel, and a relaxed lifestyle. The individual continued to say how joining the program could help the woman become financially free before 30. In that moment, Trendiak decided to carefully slip the woman a note warning her about the job that seemed like a potential "pyramid scheme" to her.
The entrepreneur added that if something sounds "too good to be true, it probably is." She told the woman in her note not to sign the contract the same day and to take her time in making a wise decision. She pointed out that it is important to do proper research about the role and offer before any deal. Trendiak shared that while she had left the coffee shop, she decided to come back and give the note to the woman in the middle of her meeting. She also shared that she has over 15 years of experience as a business owner, so hearing the interviewer's unrealistic offer raised more concerns.
A short warning can be useful when someone may be making an important choice without having enough information. For Trendiak, leaving that woman with that chance was worth the awkwardness of stepping in and interrupting the formal situation. She shared that as a "woman to woman," she knew she had to guide the individual and do the best she could to prevent any potential scams.
Walking away from a job opportunity can sometimes prove to be the wiser choice. In another incident, a woman left a job interview after calmly explaining she was turning down a role due to personal reasons involving her mother. She remained polite throughout the conversation; however, the moment she left, the attitude of the two men interviewing her changed. They laughed about her situation and made rude remarks, saying she had "mommy issues."
A stranger named Niki Detrich sitting nearby in the café had also overheard the conversation and later emphasized how she had "dodged a bullet." The two men, according to her, were dressed in casual gym attire during what seemed like a formal meeting, further adding that the behavior of the interviewers was problematic from the start. She described the men's comments as "disgusting and misogynistic," and believed the woman had avoided a bad workplace.
