Losing a pet brings a kind of grief that only pet owners can fathom. A woman named Amulya Vadali, who goes by u/avvcosmo2 on Reddit, knew this pain very well, so she shared her experience with Queen Camilla after she lost her beloved dog. The woman decided to console the Queen of the United Kingdom with a heartfelt letter and a book she had written about losing pets. In return, she was rewarded with an equally heartwarming response.

The letter began by expressing her condolences for the loss of Queen Camilla’s dog Beth. She mentioned how she was no stranger to the grief of losing a pet. “Having lost my own pup last year, I understand the profound bond we share with our pets and the deep sorrow that accompanies their passing,” she wrote. She added that her book, titled “I’ll Be Your Friend Forever,” was specially written for people who have gone through the gutwrenching reality of losing their beloved pets. “This book is dedicated to helping families navigate the complex emotions of losing a cherished pet,” Vadali explained.

Offering a copy of the book as a sign of “sympathy and support,” the author hoped to bring “comfort and strength” to the Queen amid her grief. Vadali hoped to only offer sympathy at such an aching loss but Queen Camilla had more in store for her. She acknowledged the gesture and the thoughtfulness behind the book, as well as the letter, and decided to write back to her. Thanking Vadali for her generosity and kind words about her dog, Queen Camilla sent a royal letter back. It read, “Dear Amulya, many thanks for your wonderful words about my dear Beth. She was a wonderful companion to me for 13 happy years. I will miss her every day.”

The letter was signed by the Queen with a handwritten note below that said, “Thank you for your very helpful book.” Vadali was delighted to hear back from Her Majesty. However, what excited her more was that the Queen found her work “helpful” and acknowledged it respectfully. There was also a picture of Her Majesty with the late Beth, expressing the adorable and priceless bond the duo shared. “I’m screaming,” Vadali wrote in her caption after adding that her majesty found her work valuable. Many people were glad for Vadali but also sympathized with the Queen. Several also commended the author for her work and for thoughtfully sharing it at a devastating time.

u/HeadbandHussy wrote, “That was a thoughtful gesture on your part. I'm delighted that you received such a lovely note in return.” u/DabblesinIrony added, “This is the kind of thing I want to see in the news: wholesome, heartwarming and uniting. You seem like a kind person and I’m so happy that you got such a lovely response from Queen Camilla.” u/GrandourLess remarked, “Losing a lifelong companion isn't easy. Thanks for the gesture.” u/pr0diagalnun said, “Thank you for adding kindness and beauty to the world!”
