After woman accidentally ruins her puffer jacket in washing machine, strangers step up to teach her the right way
Adulting is not easy and one of the chores that is disliked the most is laundry. No one wants to go through the repetitive cycle of washing and drying clothes. However, the most troublesome hassle is figuring out how to wash different types of clothing without ruining the fabric. A woman named Tiegan Maree (@tieganmareee) shared a blunder she made while doing her laundry and it has since then created a viral concern among adults. The woman came straight to the point and showed how she messed up one of her pieces of clothing by washing it directly in the washing machine. Luckily, there are helpful responses and mindful solutions to opt for.
Maree revealed it was her puffer jacket which she washed casually in the washing machine. According to Columbia, a puffer jacket is an air-light jacket consisting of synthetic insulation. It is designed with special materials, unlike regular jackets to keep a person warm in chilly weather. As the name suggests, the jacket is like a puffy thing and requires delicate care while washing and maintaining. The woman didn’t mention the type of wash she chose, but the results were tear-jerking. Holding up a completely deflated jacket, as if all the air and insulation had been sucked out of it, the woman was shocked.
The jacket was completely messed up and had no hope of revival. Instead of a thick and fluffy coat, Maree was disappointed to see a flat and wrung jacket thanks to the washing machine. Every part of the jacket was in a way deflated and it felt like it was almost useless and would no longer protect from the biting cold. People were baffled at the sight of the jacket. @belann99 wrote, “I wash mine all the time and it doesn’t come out like this.” @stonerbabe28 added, “Everyone is saying it's common sense but I would have done this.”
To her luck, people came to Maree’s rescue and offered tips and tricks to revive the puffer jacket and provided discretion about washing the next time. @kaylee said, “It will fluff up when it’s dry.” @loessiej mentioned, “It can be washed in the machine, but just dry it at a cold temperature in the air dryer with tennis balls.” @tals_29 added, “Read the label girl! Pop it in the drier. I’ve gone through the same panic." Andy Morningstar, a product specialist at Columbia Sportswear, gave her life-saving input on how to manage puffer jackets. “Letting your jacket go too long between washes can cause the inner fill to clump up, which reduces the loft,” she said. Suggesting how to wash it, she offered 4 tips to follow.
Firstly, she pointed out that all the pockets and openings of the jackets need to be closed and zipped before putting them in the washer. It is also advisable to brush off dirt and other particles. A front-loading washing machine with gentle or delicate wash is the way to go. Thirdly, one needs to avoid using products with bleach or fabric softener. Lastly, the drying should be done on low to no heat, preferably with 2-3 tennis balls. In conclusion, you can use a washing machine for your puffer jacket, you just have to use it right!
