Woman stood up for post office worker being berated by a man — then an older stranger said something she couldn't accept
It can feel convenient not to speak up for a stranger when someone is being rude to them. But Instagram creator, actor, and singer Kirrilee Berger, who goes by @kirrileeberger, reminded viewers exactly why it is important to take a stand for others. In a video posted on Saturday, October 10, 2026, she explained that she was at the post office when she noticed a man berating a female staff member and shouting at her. Berger decided to intervene on her behalf. But what an older man told her after she took a stand only reinforced her belief that supporting someone when they feel intimidated can help them feel less alone.

Berger said she knew she probably wouldn't change the man's mind, but she kept thinking about the employee and how alone she might have felt. She'd been in similar situations herself, where someone spoke down to her or verbally abused her, and nobody stepped in. "And I wish someone had," she said. That's why she urged people not to stay quiet when they see someone being treated badly, especially service workers.

She also told viewers that if confronting the rude person feels too intimidating, there's still something you can do. "Go up to that person and say, 'I am so sorry about the way that you are being treated,'" she said. People in the comments appreciated her message. @youre_joshing_me wrote, "It may not change the world, but it definitely changed her world." @ghost.hunting added, "Thanks for speaking up; one person can change the world." @theylovefilminlife asked, "It's like, have we even forgotten what kindness is?"
Berger was right to take a stand for the sake of the person being targeted. It can help them come out of the uncomfortable situation, teach the other person a lesson, and help the targeted person feel supported. A similar incident unfolded at a café in Bali, where Instagram creator Vivian Yun witnessed two tourists berating a waitress because their food was taking too long.
When she saw how frightened the employee looked, Yun decided to step in, telling the men, “Real men don’t speak to women like that.” She also reminded them that they couldn't come to someone else's country and treat people that way. The men were caught off guard, and one eventually admitted they would “do better” next time. Like Berger, Yun showed that speaking up might feel uncomfortable, but it can make a difference to someone who's being treated unfairly.
