Woman thought her date was only 10 years older until LinkedIn revealed he was in his 50s — his explanation made it worse

A woman who goes by u/SweetQuality8943 had been dating a younger-looking man for about a month. They shared great chemistry, and it was going perfectly. She believed he was in his 30s and only about 10 years older than her, but something changed when she became curious about his work and looked him up on LinkedIn, only to find that he had been dishonest about his age this entire time. She shared the experience on Reddit on Friday, September 18, 2026, and the reason he gave for lying about his age was even more shocking than the lie itself.
What she found on his LinkedIn profile made her realize that he had actually finished graduate school before she was even born. She confronted him after their last date and asked directly about his age. He eventually admitted that he had lied and revealed that he was actually in his early 50s. When she asked how long he planned to let her believe he was younger, he didn't have an answer. Instead, he admitted that he wanted "greater access to younger women" because he believed most women wouldn't date men in their 50s. He also expressed his desire to have kids in the future.
The woman said the conversation left her questioning how long he would have continued the relationship without telling her the truth. He also said that he had only ever dated women under 30, although he claimed he wouldn't date anyone younger than 23. When she asked whether he lied about his age with other women to get access to them, he became cagey. He tried to brush off her concerns by telling her, "But I’m still me."
