Woman was crying during her birthday lunch—a wild bird came by and surprised her with its actions
Even a little source of comfort can mean a lot when a person is feeling overwhelmed. However, one woman's source of comfort while she cried during her birthday lunch came from a very unlikely being. The woman, Scarlet, shared that she was feeling very emotional during her birthday lunch at an outdoor restaurant. But then a wild bird came by and sat on her thumb all of a sudden. The little creature stayed with her until she felt better, according to a TikTok video, where she goes by @chronicallygirl. The video received over 16.7 million views.
Scarlet was wiping her tears with a napkin when the video began. The woman was at her birthday lunch at an outdoor restaurant. A little yellow bird was sitting on her thumb as she kept that hand still and ate from her other hand. "I was crying on my birthday when a little bird landed on my finger and stayed with me for my whole birthday lunch," the text overlay of the video read. "It wasn't scared of my two dogs or the birthday candle." The bird even closed its eyes and took a little nap on the woman's thumb. "It felt like a sign, like someone squeezing my hand on my birthday." Scarlet added, "It wouldn't budge until I was ready to say goodbye. Thank you, little bird."

Scarlet safely dropped the bird in a tree after her lunch was over. "This felt like a sign," the caption read. The woman told Newsweek that birthdays felt really overwhelming to her as she had lost many of her family members in the past few years. She was crying because she was really missing her grandmother that day and the bird's actions felt like a sign from her late grandma. "It felt like my grandmother sent me a little birdy to comfort me on my birthday and remind me that we are just little creatures in the world that need each other." Before it landed on Scarlet's thumb, the bird had crashed into a glass window and surprised everyone at the restaurant, per the outlet.
"Being able to comfort this little creature in need ended up bringing me comfort and I was honored that it let me take care of it," Scarlet continued. People shared their own similar experiences in the comments section of the video. @c.antunez11 wrote, "The day after my husband passed away, a little bird knocked on my window. I was devastated. But he insisted. Pecking at the glass until I finally opened the curtain. He stayed for quite a while singing at the window, looking inside. I know it was him, because my husband had a black beard with a white streak and the little bird was just the same. He came to give me comfort and to say goodbye, since his death was so sudden."
@catstatues commented, "It looks like a female Yellowthroat. Some people think they represent new beginnings or a transitional period. This was such a special interaction." @tabbybrothers24 remarked, "This has me bawling. My papa was at my wedding as a black bird and he loved the color black. Stayed on the wooden arch through the whole thing. Happy birthday, gorgeous." Scarlet often shares glimpses of her life through her page. In one video, she shared the things she had packed for her trip to Kenya.
