With the ever-changing workplace scenario, unfortunately, layoffs have become the new normal. Every day, we wake up to countless news stories about multinational companies downsizing their workforce due to economic downturns or industry-specific needs. In such circumstances, sadly, most people who lose financial stability do not get their family and friends' support. However, a first-generation Korean-American, Lanie–who goes by @complanie on TikTok–is fortunate to have a mother who supports her no matter what. In an emotional video, she captured how her mom reacted to the devastating news of her layoff.

Lanie was nervous to call her family, as she felt like a complete "failure." But to her surprise, her mother's reaction not only made her feel at ease but also made her realize how far their bond had grown. "I need to tell my mom that I got laid off. This is not going to be an easy call," she spoke as she FaceTimed her mother while recording the incident. When her mother asked if there was a specific reason she had called, Lanie simply brushed it off, saying it was because they hadn't spoken for a while. However, just a moment later, she could no longer control her emotions and broke down into uncontrollable tears. "Is there a problem? What's going on? Tell Mom!" Lanie's mother, DeeDee, spoke, trying to console her daughter.

After gathering the courage, Lanie finally broke the news of her layoff to her mother. She said that she was always aware of her mother constantly worrying about her expenses, and hence, Lanie had initially decided not to tell her about her situation. Fortunately, instead of being vulnerable herself, Lanie's mother gave her daughter the strength she needed. "Don't cry, you got this! You are going to find another job, don't worry! It's okay!" her mother said. Further, DeeDee inquired if she had filed for unemployment with the labor department yet, trying to give her a possible solution for her situation. "Mom and Dad have never been worried about your future. We know it will all work out for you," her mother added.

Soaking in the unwavering support from her mother, Lanie announced that she would work even harder this time to seize a better opportunity. "Everyone deals with something like this at least once in their lives. But it will make you even stronger, so don't feel too discouraged. This is an opportunity for better possibilities to come your way," DeeDee explained. Moreover, she asked her daughter to get some rest and distract herself by visiting the nearby garden. Towards the end, Lanie was sobbing hard because she was clearly overwhelmed by her mother's unconditional love and support.

Meanwhile, @bbernsteinaugen pointed out, "Non-Asian people don't understand how rare this is. We are petrified of telling our parents we failed at something." @carlo_calma said, "The way my heart swelled when she told you to go see the flowers by the library. Tell her I’m going to go see the ones by mine." @letschatwithgrace commented, "Girl, everyone is getting laid off right now. I hope you are doing okay. Don’t take it personally. Companies are laying off for the stupidest reasons right now." @ellyziyy shared, "Sobbing, I was also laid off, and your mom's words are so encouraging, and she is totally right. Let’s find something better."
