With adulthood, many factors bring about a change in appearance, weight and other aspects of the body. All differences are to be embraced and respected. Unfortunately, not everyone embraces such changes. Some people cling to body-shaming as a means to disrespect and put others down. A woman named Charlie Smith (@charliersmith1) faced a similar backlash when she posted a picture of herself on X. However, instead of caving in to rude remarks, Smith handled the situation with kindness and grace.

The woman shared a post with a picture of herself and her body transformation over the months. She wrote, “There are 20 months between these photos. In the 1st, I was addicted to exercise and being ‘thin.' In the 2nd, I’m ‘overweight’ but have a much healthier relationship with food and exercise.” Smith embraced herself as she felt comfortable and was not afraid to express it on the internet boldly. She also concluded her post by saying, “Before commenting on someone’s weight, think about what they might be going through.” Despite the post challenging stereotypical views, people ignored her words and judged her appearance in the picture.

Many people began trolling her and commenting on her weight. @iSanMinis wrote, “So you're saying you quit controlling your urges.” @CroAglo added, “You look better in the first one.” @habsulrignyr remarked, "Thinking you might be going through about 6000 calories a day.” While there were many positive comments to counter the rude ones, Smith decided to take things up a notch and respond to the critics herself. She admitted in a comment that she was nervous to post herself but overcame her fear and did it anyway. "I'll be honest - I felt incredibly nervous posting this. I’ve never really been honest about my addiction to exercise, but I wanted to share it as I’ve had a few remarks about my weight lately, so yeah, be kind always," Charlie wrote.

Instead of caving in and backing down, she reposted the picture with another powerful perspective. In the follow-up post, Smith wrote, “Since sharing this photo yesterday, I’ve been subject to some pretty horrible comments about my appearance and weight.” She added that she "contemplated deleting the picture” but decided to win this battle for herself. “I’ve decided to post it again to show I’m not ashamed of my body!” the woman wrote while adding a close-up of only the second picture from the earlier post. Ever since the post has received over 28,000 comments. Many people supported her and were proud that she overlooked the hate and stayed true to herself.

@112358zzz said, “Haters are gonna hate. Figure this out early in life— It will save you a lot of time and energy.” @onabust added, “Those messaging the trash talk are probably sitting in their lazy boy chairs with Dorito dust sprinkled all over their guts.” @nicholsjoanna16 said, “Who are the people that have access to your account that would say things like that? Dump them fast. No one needs that in their life.” @HectorK82297758 remarked, “Your self-worth is contained within your head, not other people's opinions of you.” @DerekWoodie urged, “You are out getting it done and you are fabulous! Looking good too! Keep it up and mute the haters!”
