The one fear single people have is choosing the wrong person to spend the rest of their lives with, and their concern is valid. Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marissa, who goes by @your_sis_riss on Instagram, was reminded recently why it is important to be careful about who you pick to be your partner, when she witnessed the bond between a patient and her partner. In a post shared on June 7, 2026, the woman revealed that she saw a couple at the hospital display the true meaning of the phrase "in sickness and in health." The wife, who was in bed and in pain, was being assisted by her husband. After watching them, she vowed not to marry a "loser."

Marissa explained that the couple seemed young and had an emergency. She didn't describe much about what happened, but noted that the wife couldn't use the bathroom and had to wear a catheter (a tube inserted into the body to drain fluids). She was in pain and mentioned to her partner that she had to urinate. When the healthcare worker asked if she needed privacy, the couple declined her offer. However, what she witnessed next made her eyes well up. The man, without making it awkward or uncomfortable, quickly offered to check on the equipment. He straightened it out so she would have no problems while relieving herself. "And the most beautiful thing about this, they both had a little giggle after. The spouse said something really funny. 'Fire away,' something like that," she recounted. That commitment, that love, is unmatched.

Recalling an ex, Marissa noted that when she was in a similar situation, her date never offered to help. And after watching this couple, she couldn't be more confident that it is crucial to marry someone who will fulfill vows in the truest sense. A research study published by PubMed Central noted that it is important for spouses to care for their partners during a health crisis. Yet, the data revealed that 60% of caregivers of older women were females, such as daughters, family members, etc. On the other hand, wives were more likely to spend time looking after their husbands in a similar situation. The woman was already in pain due to her medical condition; however, the man's support made her feel less conscious and embarrassed.

"And this is why, if you're somebody who is in their 30s and still waiting to find their person, we don't settle. Find your person who is going to make sure your catheter is in place," Marissa expressed. Many online users shared their heartwarming reactions to the story. @jesicaannem commented, "I definitely thought this story was going in a negative direction, love this." @dzabeleytyaki added, "The exact reason I married the man I married!" @emily_texter remarked, "This is so important."
