10-year-old boy was bullied by a classmate for being short — his unexpectedly 'kind' response instead of getting upset left his mom speechless

The mom was confused about the boy's kind reply and asked why he'd said that, only to receive another beautiful explanation.

Standing up to bullies is challenging, especially after they make hurtful comments. However, how you choose to respond can be empowering. One 10-year-old had a gracious reply after his classmates bullied him for being short. His mom, Lorenza, who goes by @lifewithlorenza_ on Instagram, shared the incident on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The little boy confidently told her that he had an unexpected reply that caught the bullies off guard. His approach left her proud.

The boy revealed that the other student called him an unkind name because he was short. The 10-year-old simply told him, “Oh, that’s so kind; you should get an award for saying that.” He sarcastically went on to tell the kid that he might tell his teacher about the whole discussion because what he said was so unexpected and kind. The bully immediately got scared and confused and pleaded with him not to tell anyone what happened. Lorenza asked her son why he responded that way because what the bully said was far from kind. He told her, “The best way to talk back to bullies is to be kind.” The mom was at a loss for words. His mature approach at that tender age left her feeling proud.

In her caption, Lorenza mentioned that she always felt a little insecure about sending her son to school early. Because he is the youngest in his batch, he also looks the smallest, and it is easily visible and can invite trouble. However, after hearing his words, she is far from being worried. She noted that she is no longer second-guessing her decision because “by all accounts, he is thriving.” What matters is that the boy isn’t defining himself by those unruly words. “But most importantly, he is kind, confident, and will always stand up for himself(and others),” the mom noted. The internet was equally proud of how the young boy responded. @santanluv888 wrote, “Reverse psychology! Love the way that baby handled that situation!” @nicolemarie091 remarked, “He is more mature than I am.” @krharleygirl added, “Love this solution.”

How a victim reacts to bullying can affect how strongly they are impacted by the incident. In a similar instance, one student decided to step up for her friend after a classmate bullied her. The boy made fun of her teeth and called her a beaver. The little girl was upset, but her friend quickly came to her aid and said, “That's not about you; that's about him. You don't have to worry about that.” In an instant, she shielded her from those words and reassured her. The girl’s mother, who learned what she did to lift her friend, was moved to tears. As a victim of bullying herself, she knew how important it was for that student to know that they were all lies and that the cruel remarks said nothing about who she really was.
