200-lb woman was at a friend’s party when a man stared at her before calling security — the reason left her shaken
Discrimination and judgment can appear in unexpected places. NYC's Mari Roncetti (@marironcettinyc) recalled attending a friend’s party that included dinner and clubbing. At the time, she weighed around 200 pounds. She was looking forward to a night of fun with her close friends. Everything seemed normal when they arrived at the club and gained entry into a special area reserved for VIPs. But the night took a shocking turn when a man began staring at her and eventually called security over. The video posted on January 8, 2026, revealed the details of the incident and the reason behind the unusual behavior.

Roncetti recalled the strange man staring at her before he sent someone to ask what she was doing there. Despite being with 5 other girls that night, she was the only one approached with a hostile question. Eventually, the man called security on her, and they asked her to leave. She was frustrated, wondering why they kicked her out when all she did was dance and enjoy. She later realized that she was being targeted because she was the only plus-size woman in the group. She showed her stamp like everyone else, but “he kept nagging me,” she shared.

Understanding what was happening, her friends decided to leave as well in her support. “I wasn’t doing anything; I was just in my place,” Roncetti added. Situations like this show how unfair judgment can turn a fun night into a painful and isolating experience, leaving lasting emotional effects. "We were flabbergasted," she commented as they were kicked out. Being singled out in this way affected her confidence and trust in social spaces. Even years later, the memory remains painful and has prevented her from feeling comfortable returning to clubs. “That was traumatizing,” she said, reflecting on how the experience left her stunned.
Bodyshaming and judgment are a bane that has been plaguing society for a long time, and they can leave long-lasting emotional scars. It's an important reminder to be empathetic and fair. Although Roncetti no longer weighs 200 pounds, the memory of that night still impacts her. She shared that she does not have the courage to go to a club again, and it's heartbreaking to think about how many people are condemned in so many fields and situations only because of their appearance.
Even when someone tries to better themselves, some people still bully them for their physical appearance. This is what one woman experienced when she went to the gym to improve her health. “[She] was almost in tears, got off the treadmill and went back towards the locker room,” as one witness shared. A stranger noticed the situation and decided to act, saying, “I put my weights back and followed her, told her to wait right there, and reported the group to the manager.”
The stranger then offered support and encouragement, helping her feel safe and welcome. The woman explained she was new and learning, and had recently lost a parent to a weight-related heart issue. “We all start somewhere,” the stranger told her, helping her continue her workout. In the end, the three members responsible for the bullying were permanently banned from the gym, showing that inappropriate behavior has consequences.
