97-year-old said she didn't 'feel pretty anymore.' Her great-granddaughter found the perfect way to restore her confidence.

Losing confidence in your appearance can make everyday moments feel different. The way you dress, how you carry yourself and even how you look in the mirror can start to feel unfamiliar. That was the case for Tilly’s 97-year-old great-grandmother, who admitted she didn’t feel pretty anymore. For Tilly, hearing that from someone she had always admired was difficult. Her great-grandmother had always been strong, independent and full of life. When she mentioned that she might like to wear a dress again, Tilly knew she had to do something special. She shared the experience on TikTok (@talenacleyne), where the moment resonated with millions.

Tilly and her mother took her shopping for the first time in years. In her post, Tilly mentioned that her great-grandmother had only worn pants and T-shirts since her husband passed away, so the moment was meaningful. She wrote in the caption, "We truly had the best girls' day. She smiled and laughed so much (more than I’ve seen her laugh in a long time). She was obviously sassy as she always is, very particular and picky in the make of the dresses, the fabric used, and the way it did up." As she tried on different dresses, Tilly watched her "look in the mirror and admire who she was and how she looked in each dress, but also watch her point out what she didn’t like about herself."

She took her time moving around in the dresses, making sure they fit into her daily life. Tilly wrote, "I watched her face light up when she tried on a dress that made her feel pretty." Tilly also shared how her great-grandmother felt when she finally found the dress, saying, "At the end of the day, there was nothing like seeing her face when she tried on 'the' dress that made her feel all the wonderful things we see her for from the outside, but she never sees herself." She concluded her post by expressing her bond with her great-grandma. "She deserves to feel special, and I’ll never take for granted how lucky I am to spend time and have these kinds of days with my great grandma," Tilly wrote.
People were moved by the heartwarming gesture and also the great-grandmother's transformation. @..__melissa..__ wrote, "It’s such a terrible shame that she didn’t feel pretty when she’s clearly a gorgeous woman with a beaming smile." @jesslee380 commented, "Doesn’t she look radiant in all of those options!" The blue gingham dress was a fan favorite. @thebitchnkitchen added, "The blue gingham is my favorite, but she looks beautiful in everything." @sally_fifo_life pointed out, "Over 100 thousand people agreed she looked stunning in the blue gingham dress."

For others, the video stirred deep emotions and memories of their own grandmothers. @emilybloye shared, "So precious! I loved shopping with my grandma. She passed 2 weeks before my wedding and her planned outfit for the big day was hanging on her bedroom door." @afterhourswithamanda wrote, "But why am I sobbing? Makes me wish I had a grandma to do this with. How special." @hex.babyy said, "The matching dresses sent me into a spiral. Man, I miss my Grammie." @lydiarose1991 commented, "Why did I go from smiling to bawling when they wore matching dresses?"
@talenacleyne My great grandma (97) who only ever wears pants and a tshirt told me she didn’t feel pretty anymore. This coming from such a strong, powerful and inspirational woman honestly broke my heart. She mentioned she might like to wear a dress again, and I know she hasnt worn one since Pa passed away, so I was determined to have this be a special and fun day for her. Mum and I took her dress shopping and we truley had the best girls day. She smiled and laughed so much (more than I’ve seen her laugh in a long time), she was obviously sassy as she always is, she was very particular and picky in the make of the dresses, the fabric used and the way it did up. It was beautiful to sit and watch her look in the mirror and admire who she was and how she looked in each dress, but also watch her point out what she didnt like about herself and some of the dresses (because thats human, and seeing my great grandma do exactly what I would do when trying on clothes was so incredibly relatable and realistic to the unrealistic standards we put on ourselves. I was so glad I could be there to tell her she looked beautiful because she truley is in every way), I watched her move around in the dresses to see how they would look when she was doing puzzles at the retirement village, I watched her face light up when she tried on a dress that made her feel pretty, but at the end of the day there was nothing like seeing her face when she tried on ‘the’ dress that made her feel all the wonderful things we see her for from on the outside but she never sees herself. She deserves to feel special and I’ll never take for granted how lucky I am to spend time and have these kinds of days with my great grandma ❤️ #grateful #special #wholesome #greatgrandma #grandma #girlsday #shopping #shoppingspree #fyp ♬ what was I made for? - Instrumental - Wheeler
