Airbnb host ignored a warning about a guest and accepted his month-long booking — one entitled remark made her cancel within 15 minutes
When it comes to business, people take a risk and choose to trust prospective customers. Unfortunately, this backfired quickly after an Airbnb host, who goes by u/MexiGeeGee, decided to accept one man’s booking. Sharing her story on Reddit on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, she explained how she reluctantly made a deal with the person for a one-month stay. Despite the previous host cautioning that the client had issues, the woman decided to give him a shot. She was proven wrong within minutes after hearing his remarks and decided to cancel his stay instantly.
As soon as she confirmed with him, he started lecturing her. He first told her that “the place has to be professionally cleaned before his arrival” and demanded that the host “guarantee the hot water would be working.” He had been acting difficult even while discussing the stay, but after making the booking, he started acting entitled. She later revealed that she had forgotten to mention that a realtor would be showing the place once a week before confirming, and immediately let him know. He refused, but the host tried explaining that ignoring buyers for a month was not feasible. He replied, “That's not how it works. Confirmed is confirmed. Welcome to the real world.” Those words were the last straw; she refunded his money and canceled within 15 minutes.
The host mentioned that her place was in a secluded location, due to which she hadn’t received any customers in months. Because of this, she decided to go ahead with one prospective client. However, he started sharing random expectations one after the other. She was already nervous about hosting someone after a long time, and his attitude added to it. She tried her best to later explain that she was not in a good financial position, which was why she needed the showings to continue, and added that there would be plenty of advance notice. Yet, he was adamant about his requirements, and even reported her after she canceled.
In her opinion, it was just an experience, but she felt she dodged a bullet by cancelling on the man. Just like customers have rights and protection, hosts, too, have some form of security, as per the Airbnb official website. There is something known as “AirCover,” which allows homeowners to get proper guest verification, reservation screening, $3 million Host damage protection, $1 million Host liability insurance, $1 million Experiences & Services liability insurance, and a 24-hour safety line.
It was also noted that both guests and hosts are encouraged to share reviews of the stay so there is a clear perspective for both parties while considering prospects. The woman was able to see the customer’s review and made her final decision with that in mind. Reddit users had mixed opinions.
