Airline asked passengers not to eat nuts because of a woman’s severe allergy — one man’s reaction left her in tears and triggered a panic attack
Flying with a severe allergy can mean relying on the people around you to understand that even a small mistake can have serious consequences. TikTok user Chloe Dickson, who goes by @peanutfreezone1, felt relieved when her airline announced her peanut allergy and asked fellow travelers not to eat nuts. However, one passenger's reaction quickly put her on edge, according to Newsweek. She caught the weird reaction on camera and shared it on TikTok on August 22, 2026. What the passenger said left Dickson in tears.
@peanutfreezone1 Flying with a severe allergy is terrifying enough without having to worry about the people around you making it worse. The man who commented on my allergy at the start of the flight then proceeded to make comments throughout the entire journey about eating peanuts around me, along with two other people nearby. I felt incredibly uncomfortable and on edge for the whole flight. What makes it even more upsetting is being told that I shouldn’t fly or go on holiday because of my allergy. I shouldn’t have to stop living my life because other people don’t understand how serious an allergy can be. I’m not asking everyone to understand exactly what it feels like — just to have some compassion and respect for the fact that, for me, this is a genuine fear for my safety. 🤍 #allergyawareness #foryoupage❤️❤️ #flying #fyp #allergy ♬ original sound - Chloë
In the brief video that Dickson shared, the airline crew member can be heard making an announcement saying, "To keep them safe, please don't open or eat anything containing nuts." Dickson was relieved to hear the crew acknowledge her allergy, hoping it would help her feel safer during the flight. But almost immediately, a man sitting behind her reacted with a dismissive, "Really?" and it quickly shifted Dickson's mood. It made her uncomfortable, and when she looked behind her, she said the man argued with her and "made comments throughout the 4-hour flight." The interaction totally altered the flight experience for her, and she ended up having a panic attack.
Speaking to the outlet, the 28-year-old said the experience made her "incredibly anxious" and described it as "terrifying" when people argue back after learning about her allergy because she feels her safety is in their hands. She also said that airlines are usually "incredibly accommodating" when she tells them about it. Dickson said flying is usually easier when the airline takes the initiative and lets other passengers know about her allergy. She feels more at ease when the crew handles the announcement, rather than leaving her to approach strangers herself and explain why she needs them to avoid nuts.
The incident also brought up a bigger frustration for Dickson. She said she has been told that she shouldn't fly or go on vacation because of her allergy, but she doesn't believe she should have to stop living her life because other people don't understand how serious it can be. As she put it, she isn't asking everyone to know exactly what the experience feels like; she just wants "some compassion and respect" for the fact that it is a genuine fear for her safety.
People who saw her video on TikTok also sided with her and offered words of support in the comments. @thomaspurcell wrote, "Some people are just pricks," while @evalewin said, "He probably had zero intention of eating anything containing nuts before this." Another commenter, @slcowen, added, “All flights should be nut-free; it’s not asking a lot."
Moments like this can mean a lot to people living with severe allergies. In another story, a 21-year-old woman with a serious nut allergy was surprised when a flight attendant made an announcement asking everyone on board not to eat peanut or nut snacks. She later revealed it was the first time in 21 years that she had heard an airline make such a request, and her reaction showed just how much the small gesture meant to her. A little compassion and consideration can go a long way, especially when someone around you needs a little extra care. Kindness costs nothing, and for Dickson, that simple understanding was exactly what she needed.
