Dad of two took first class to work as family sat in economy — wife caught him chatting with a young woman for 20 minutes and put him to better use
Flying with kids can be one of the toughest parts of parenting, but with a supportive partner, the journey gets a little easier. However, when one parent chooses to sit apart from the family and work while their partner handles the little ones alone, it can test their patience. Entrepreneur and Instagram creator Jordynn Wynn, who goes by @jordynn.wynn, shared the story on October 6, 2026, after being upgraded to first class and finding herself seated next to a dad who was chatting with her while his wife and two young children sat in economy. Things got awkward when his wife came over and did something that left the dad embarrassed.
The man was casually talking with Wynn and told her he was a professor working in nature conservation. He said he was using the first-class seat to catch up on a project. They chatted for about 20 minutes before his "grumpy" wife arrived with their two young children and placed the younger one on his lap, telling him, "If you’re not going to work, then the least you can do is watch one of the babies." She was clearly upset, and when he tried to explain that Wynn had only been asking about his job, she snapped that she’d been watching them talk for the past 20 minutes. Wynn initially thought the woman seemed annoyed, but soon she reconsidered. She couldn’t help but wonder why a father would leave his wife to manage two small children in economy while he worked and enjoyed first class.

After the woman returned to her seat, she left the younger child with his father. He suddenly had to juggle a restless toddler while trying to work. Wynn said he started handing the child whatever he could find in his bag to keep him occupied. She sat beside them, feeling awkward about the whole situation and even wondered if she should help. She initially thought the mother had overreacted, but the more she thought about it, the more she understood why she was upset. The fact that the father was sitting comfortably in first class while his partner handled both children in economy on a three- to four-hour flight baffled her. She offered two takeaways at the end of the video. She said, "Just never talk to a man with wedding rings on," and, more importantly, "Choose wisely.”

Having a partner who doesn’t recognize the effort it takes to manage children or offer support can make an already stressful situation feel even more frustrating. In a similar situation, comedian Debra DiGiovanni noticed a mother struggling to manage six children and 12 bags at the airport. When her husband finally showed up saying, "Help is here!" he picked up just one baby and walked away, leaving her to handle the rest. Before they left, DiGiovanni told the exhausted mom, "Hey, Mom, you are doing a great job," and the simple words brought her to tears.
