Dolly Parton asked a pregnant fan having contractions if she’d have the baby during her show — her response stunned the singer
The passing of Dolly Parton has left the music industry and millions of fans in shambles. According to a report from PEOPLE, the Jolene singer passed away at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer. The artist changed the lives of many fans through her work and interactions. One of these was a Facebook user who goes by Chris McKee Jennings. On her account @chris.m.jennings.71, the woman recalled a time she was pregnant with her daughter, Abby, and went to watch Parton live despite having contractions. In her post on Friday, August 28, 2026, she recalled a conversation from years ago and how one question prompted an answer that left the late singer in stitches.
Calling it the “best night” of her life, Jennings noted how she was introduced to Parton before the show. Seeing her belly bump, she asked how far along the mom was. It was revealed that she was having contractions at the time but didn’t want to miss watching her favorite artist live. After a brief chat, Parton joked, “Are you gonna have this baby during my show?” Without missing a beat, Jennings replied, “Dolly, I've waited my whole life to get to see you. If I have to hang upside down off my seat with my feet in the air, I'm not leaving until you're done singing.” Stunned by her reply, the I Will Always Love You singer assured her that she would personally keep an eye on her throughout the show.
True to her word, Jennings mentioned that Parton stopped the show for a few seconds to check on her. As she recalled the priceless conversation, she couldn’t help but share how her music impacted her pregnancy. When the artist asked to touch her belly, the baby immediately kicked where her hand was. “I told her it was because Abby already knew her voice because I listened to her so much,” the mom said. The singer’s team told PEOPLE that Parton breathed her last at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in the presence of her loved ones. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, officially shared the news in a video on Instagram.
“It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness,” he said, before adding that Parton would be greeted by her late husband, Carl, and her parents as she embraces her heavenly journey. “Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched,” and Jennings’ story showed this beautifully. Commenters noted that it was a one-of-a-kind experience to have witnessed the kind-hearted singer. @capenny wrote, “This is a side of her a lot of the public didn’t get to see. She was a very caring person.” @DropWaters said, “You know you were touched by an angel.” @kimatkisson added, “This might be the best fan story I’ve heard so far.” Sharing a picture from the beautiful experience, she added, “Rest in peace, Dolly Parton. You were certainly one of a kind! I will always love you.”
