Tipping a delivery driver definitely shows appreciation, especially when an order involves a long drive or arrives late at night. However, one customer was left confused after a driver turned down an extra payment, even though they had already tipped her $13. The unusual exchange stayed on their mind, leading them to share the experience on Reddit. In a post published on October 18, 2026, under the username u/Waff3le, they explained why the driver's response surprised them and left them wondering what had motivated the refusal.

The customer had ordered food from a restaurant, which required the driver to travel around 15 minutes to reach their home. They felt the original tip was fair, especially with fuel prices being high, but decided to offer another $10 because it was late and they had extra cash. When the driver arrived, the customer noticed an older woman and her son in the car. After handing over the food, the woman politely declined the additional money, explaining, "We just do this for fun." The customer was puzzled by her answer and wondered whether having her son with her had influenced the decision. They also questioned why anyone would make deliveries without wanting the extra earnings.

The interaction was brief, but it left the customer thinking about the woman's unusual explanation. They could not understand why she would turn down money that had been offered as a gesture of thanks, especially when the delivery involved a longer drive. They had assumed the driver would welcome the cash. However, the driver may have had her own reasons for declining.

While tips may not matter to some individuals, others rely on them and may feel disappointed when they fall short of expectations. In another incident, a delivery driver believed a customer had broken her promise after asking him to return with a missing item. He had agreed to make the extra trip because she offered an additional $10. However, when he completed the delivery, no extra payment came through. Feeling let down, he assumed the customer had taken advantage of his willingness to help.

The situation became clearer when the driver came across a local Facebook post from the same customer. She was trying to find him because she had been unable to send the promised tip through the app due to a payment error. He contacted her, and she eventually sent him $15. The driver appreciated that she had made an effort to keep her word. The missing item had been a Big Mac from a McDonald's order, which the restaurant had accidentally left out of the delivery bag. Although the customer could have accepted the mistake without offering anything extra, she wanted to recognize the driver's time and effort. The incident showed how a simple misunderstanding could be resolved when both sides communicated honestly.
