DoorDash driver was told to keep a canceled pizza after the customer stopped answering — one decision ensured they went home with a $75 tip
Sometimes, a small act of kindness can turn an ordinary day into a special one. A DoorDash driver was wrapping up his night when one last delivery sent him to an address where no one seemed to answer. After waiting and contacting customer support, he was told the order had been canceled. But just as he thought the situation was over, the customer got in touch. The DoorDash driver, who goes by u/Fantastic-Sorbet2024, shared the experience on Reddit on November 2, 2026, and what happened next came with a rather unexpected reward.
I got a $75 tip for someone who accidentally forgot they ordered pizza

The driver explained that he had accepted one final order worth $32 for 15 miles before ending his shift. The delivery included two orders, one from a liquor store and another from Papa John's. When he reached the pizza customer's address, the gate code didn't work, and the customer wasn't answering his calls. After waiting five minutes, he contacted DoorDash support, but they couldn't reach the customer either and eventually canceled the order. He continued with the second delivery, but about 25 minutes later, the woman called to apologize, explaining that she'd lost track of time and entered the wrong address. The driver returned to Papa John's, but the restaurant told him to keep the pizza. He decided to take it to the woman anyway, and she thanked him with a $35 cash tip and another $25 via Cash App.

The driver was surprised by the woman's generous gesture, especially since he had already been paid by DoorDash for the original delivery and the return. In total, he received $20 for the original order, $12 for returning the pizza, and an additional $55 from the customer. Reflecting on the experience, he realized that doing the right thing rewarded him in an unexpected way.

He shared the story with a simple takeaway, saying, “I guess the moral of the story is doing the right thing does pay off sometimes.” People who read the story were happy to see the driver rewarded for going out of his way to help the customer. u/EcstaticExplanation9 wrote, “Literally the 12 bucks you got to return the pizza is about as much as 15 miles pays around here." u/GrrouchiesGrilling joked, "Most expensive pizza ever.” u/Tara_Chu wrote, "You seem like a really cool person, and you deserve every dollar. I'm so happy for you!!”

DoorDash drivers who go out of their way to fulfill orders deserve all the rewards, and there are some customers who recognize it. Similarly, in a previous story, another driver thought a customer had failed to keep her promise of a $10 tip after asking him to redeliver a missing item. He was disappointed until he came across a Facebook post from the customer, who was actually trying to track him down and make sure he got paid. She had tried sending the money but kept running into an error and eventually sent him $15 instead. The experience changed his impression of the customer, and he was thankful for the extra tip.
