Her Christmas lights caught fire while she was away. Her home camera caught the action of two young men who left her speechless
The holiday season is a time to glow with warmth, light and small moments of kindness. Sometimes, that kindness appears just at the right time and when needed the most. A TikTok video shared by Kate Glaser (@hoperisesnews), now watched more than 6.5 million times, captured one of those moments in Buffalo and people can’t stop talking about it.
19-year-old Ronald Smith and 21-year-old Shaine Wate were simply out walking when they noticed something troubling outside Tiara Miller’s home, per WKBW. Her front-yard Christmas lights had caught fire. Flames were dangerously close to the house with no time to wait or panic. So the two boys acted. They unplugged the burning lights, stopped the fire and made sure the situation was safe before leaving a message on Miller’s Ring camera. Nothing dramatic or boastful, just two strangers looking out for someone they didn’t even know.
“Your outlet was on fire, your outlet caught on fire!” one of them called out, hoping someone inside would hear. Since no one answered, they spoke directly to the camera instead. “Hi ma’am, we were just walking by, and your outlet was on fire. We put it out and unplugged it, but we were trying to get your attention to let you know your outlet caught on fire.” They didn’t stop there. “And it burned up your sidewalk and everything. So, we just unplugged it to make sure everything was okay. We’re going to unplug this one too…You have a great day and hope everything is okay.”
Their calmness, politeness and concern struck viewers around the world. Miller later shared that she was deeply thankful for their response and thoughtful actions. She was also able to find them and thank them. The timing and quick response mattered more than most realize. According to the National Fire Protection Association, the U.S. recorded 329,500 home structure fires in 2024, resulting in thousands of injuries and billions in property damage. A home structure fire was reported every 96 seconds, stark proof of how fast danger can escalate and how critical immediate action can be.
Viewers online couldn’t help but applaud the beautiful heart and instinct of the young boys. On TikTok, @m0llym00c0w wrote, “Bless them, they even unplugged the other one just in case, did they manage to find them to say thank you?” @klaremoonspups added, “Earth and all the godly energies pls protect these boys.” And @burninbothends summed up the holiday spirit surrounding the story by saying, “Hope these boys are blessed this Christmas.”
Two young men. A burning yard and a swift response. Their quick thinking prevented the situation from leading to bigger danger. It’s the kind of story that reminds people why community still matters and why simple courage can protect more than property. It can protect peace of mind.
@hoperisesnews They were walking down a street in Buffalo, NY and saw an extension cord on fire 🔥 They ran over and unplugged all the cords before it could reach the window where the cord was leading from, preventing a potential house fire. They then left a sweet message on the Ring camera for the home owner. Simply amazing!! ❤️ UPDATE: The boys captured on camera are brothers and were found and thanked soon after 🥹👏🏾 #buffalony #wholesome #heroic #goodvibesonly #heroes #inspiration ♬ original sound - Kate Glaser
