Her God-fearing date boasted about devoting his life to serving Jesus — then a search of his name uncovered a past that sent her running
When it comes to relationships, it is natural to expect a partner to share similar values, goals, and standards. A TikTok user named Grace, who also goes by @gracelrowan, posted a video on April 28, 2026, narrating one such encounter. Since she wanted someone who was a good Christian and was looking for a serious relationship, she guessed the man would have the same expectations of her. After “interviewing” her about her faith and boasting about his own, the woman thought he was a little over the top, but still gave him a chance. To her surprise, what she discovered later left her terrified.
@gracelrowan I’m sorry sir??? There was SO much more, but it was truly such a crazy situation! #crazydatingstory #datinghorrorstory #fyp #onlinedating #datingstory ♬ original sound - Grace
Grace was clear about what she wanted — someone who was looking for a long-term relationship and someone who loved God. The person she met seemed to check those boxes, just a little too much. He made their first date feel like an “interview,” asking her about her faith and practices. Given what she expected, she thought all of this was fine. He asked her questions like, “How are you serving God now?” but when she turned the question back, he gave vague answers. She still chose to brush this off and listened as he talked about his passion for his religion. This came to a standstill when she found out he had just gotten out of jail. “He’s been married, divorced, and has children,” she remarked, completely confused.
What left the woman shocked was how confident he seemed at first. He told her that “winning souls” was his hobby and had a poetic reply to every other question. At one point, he also made it seem like he didn’t have time for anything but God. When Grace mentioned that she liked football, he hesitantly said, “I guess you can love Jesus and football too.” That should have been a red flag in itself, but she still ignored it and decided to give him a shot. He later told her how he wanted someone who would literally “go to the ends of the Earth” for God. When she looked up his name, the results revealed something entirely different.
Grace felt the man's actions did not match the values he claimed to hold. It’s easy to talk about faith, but much harder to live by it. The worst part was that he never told her about his divorce or jail time. When he briefly mentioned the latter afterward, he joked about it as if it were something trivial. Many singles have grown frustrated with people who present themselves one way but turn out to be very different. According to data shared by Forbes, 53% of unmarried respondents said that they were facing dating burnout. 35% noted that they were looking for something serious, while 51% believe there is one perfect person for them.
For Grace, the discovery was enough to end any interest in seeing him again. She immediately blocked him. Commenters were glad she dodged a bullet. @alexiatyler6 wrote, “Didn’t see that one coming.” @jessicayounana1018 added, “It’s definitely a crazy world out there.” @somethingaboutstevie remarked, “Respect for you, because I wouldn’t have had the patience for that.”
