His ex’s boyfriend sent him an apology letter for bad-mouthing him — but the final line brought unexpected relief
It is common for people to move on from past relationships and completely leave old partners behind within a short period of time. However, something far more unusual is when a current partner or someone who dated your ex after your breakup unexpectedly reaches out to you personally, especially with an apology. A TikTok user, TimmyyB (@timmyyb89), shared a video on March 29, 2026, reading out a typed letter he received from a person who had dated his ex-boyfriend after their relationship ended. The individual apologized to him through the letter, but what truly brought him an unexpected sense of relief was the final line written in the message.
Timmy showed a torn envelope that he had found in his mailbox, containing a letter. He then provided some background to the story, using fictional names and referring to his ex-boyfriend as “Ethan” and Ethan’s later partner as “Bill.” The letter had been sent by Bill himself. He asked Timmy whether he had ever received any videos from Ethan before going on to explain a situation that made it seem like Bill had spoken negatively about Timmy in those videos. He apologized for it, but it was the final line of the letter that completely caught Timmy’s attention. “P.S. He’s been watching your TikToks.”
“Here’s the part I want you all to see,” Timmy said as he folded the letter so only the final line remained visible before bringing it close to the camera. Throughout the video, he at times appeared confused, curious, and occasionally almost indifferent to what was written in the letter. However, the moment he reached the final line, his expression completely changed as he lit up with pride, happiness, and a clear sense of satisfaction.
He slowly set the letter aside, swapped his reading glasses for sunglasses, and delivered a short one-line message aimed directly at Ethan, almost as if he expected him to watch the video. The message also made it clear that more than 10 years had already passed since the TikTok user’s relationship with Ethan had ended.
Bill also praised Timmy for walking away from Ethan’s life and described him as a “stronger and more resilient person” than himself. The wording of the letter created confusion about whether the sender was still in a relationship with Ethan or not. Bill explained that he simply wanted to confirm whether Timmy had ever received the video and wrote that the things said about Timmy in it were “terrible, deplorable, and not at all representative” of who he truly was. That admission appeared to make Timmy even more curious about what exactly had been said about him, as he never received the video himself after blocking Ethan on every platform.
In the backstory shared by Timmy, he also mentioned that he had once received a LinkedIn message from Bill, who claimed they had broken up and wanted to talk to him about Ethan. Although Timmy initially entertained the conversation out of curiosity and viewed it mostly as gossip, he eventually decided to block the person after the messages became “too much” for him to deal with. Nevertheless, after nearly a decade of moving on and having no contact, he unexpectedly encountered a moment from his past that ultimately brought him a sense of relief.
