Homeless man ran into college to use restroom but left the building as a student of their surgical technology program
One incident can end up changing a person's life for the better. Also, it might happen when they are least expecting it. A homeless man who went inside a college in search of a restroom experienced such a transition in his life. The man shared his story in the hopes of inspiring other people that it is never too late to accomplish something in life. The man, u/Man-Tax, is now a surgical assistant. He shared his unusual journey on Reddit.
The man had roamed the streets and eaten scraps for years with no aim in life. His only two aims were to find a place to relieve himself and a bench to lie down on. "Couldn't find a job no matter how hard I tried, and not having any skills in life or family (was raised in foster care) surely didn't help," the person shared. One fine day, he came across a college while looking for a bathroom. "It just so happened to have an open house enrollment going on and figured that was the perfect excuse to enter the building and freeload off their toilets," he continued. However, a guidance counselor approached the man and asked if he was there for the open house. Too ashamed to admit the real reason, the man said yes to the person.
"[I] ended up joining him as he regaled the countless opportunities presented before me," the surgical assistant revealed. "I was intrigued by their surgical technology program and decided to give it a shot. Needless to say, I had finally found my passion in life." He finished the 18-month-long course and 4-month-long internship, all while being homeless. Eventually, the man was offered a job at the hospital he interned at once he graduated. "After 4 years I had enough cases to take the CSFA exam," which allowed the man to become a surgical assistant and he has been one ever since that. "[I] remind myself every day just how fortunate my life turned out. Now that I'm an old man, I feel I have enough experience to encourage others that it's never too late in life to strive for better. You just have to have patience, persistence, and passion."
People took to the comments section of the post to appreciate the man's journey. u/Low_Consideration105 wrote, "I’m only 23 and excelled in my early life; always had respectable jobs that paid well. Left my last job to go back to school and got put on academic suspension. I’m trying to re-enroll but right now I feel like a complete failure and very behind. This is inspirational. I know I put way too much pressure on myself, just got to keep grinding."
u/moldyjellybean commented, "Bro what a story to begin the new year. I’m so proud of you. I hope this story reaches many and gives them hope that change can happen." u/livelypuffyhome remarked, "What an incredible journey and transformation from homeless to surgical assistant through sheer determination. Respect for making it happen." u/Eco-Freako shared, "I was in a really rough spot from the ages of 17-23. Now I’ve got a union job, a home, and a happy little family. I’m really glad that I don’t waste my life getting high anymore. We’re all doing good things."
