Hotel worker warns kids they could get hurt playing on a massive fountain — what their mother says next catches them off guard
A hotel stay can become difficult when children are left without anyone to watch them. What may look like harmless fun can become dangerous when kids use things for purposes they were never designed for. At one hotel, a worker noticed three children treating a large fountain like a slide. They knew the structure could cause serious injuries, so they stepped in before anyone got hurt. The children ran off after being warned, but the situation did not end there. They later approached the children's parents to explain what had happened and why they had intervened. The Reddit post was shared by u/HiImDIZZ on September 28, 2026, describing the incident from the hotel worker's perspective.
The fountain stood two floors high and was built at an angle, making it look somewhat like a slide even though it was not meant for that use. The employee first called out to the children from above, saying, "Hey guys, that's not a slide. Get off of the fountain." The children moved away and ran toward a nearby ballroom, where they followed and calmly explained that they could get seriously hurt. The children responded by calling them names before leaving. When they found the children with their parents near the pool, they explained the situation to the parents. Instead of thanking them for stepping in, the mother asked, "Well, who are you to tell my kids what to do?" They tried to explain that they were only concerned because the children had been using the fountain in an unsafe way.
They told the parents that if nobody had noticed them, the children could have been injured. The mother dismissed the concern and said, "Well, that's none of your business now, is it?" before waving them away. The father also objected when they pointed out that the children needed supervision. They replied that they were trying to remain polite despite what had happened. The children had even acted rudely towards the staff member and "called me some names before running away." Still, they believed in doing their duty properly and ensuring their safety. A calm response from the parents could have kept the situation from becoming more tense.
The exchange became more frustrating because they had already tried speaking directly to the children before involving their parents. In situations involving children, a little attention from adults can prevent a minor mistake from becoming a serious accident. The employee then noticed that it was already 10:05 p.m., five minutes after the hotel's pool closing time, giving them another reason to end the evening for everyone there. They then asked the kids and the entitled parents to exit the area.
Supporting unsafe behavior is not good for a child, but some parents fail to understand this. In another incident, a flight attendant noticed a young child repeatedly pressing the call button during a flight. She calmly explained to the mother that the button was meant for passengers who needed assistance and not for entertainment. Instead of correcting the child, the mother replied, "He's just having a good time." The attendant then responded, "Okay, let's just have a good time differently," while trying to keep the situation light.
