London man was called a ‘sinner’ by an elderly woman for showing up to church hungover — the second ‘sin’ she pointed out left him speechless

She spoke about going to church, and the conversation seemed pleasant until she became judgmental.

The primary teaching of any religion is love toward fellow human beings. Unfortunately, many get so caught up in rules and other biases that they forget this fact. A TikTok user from London named Dominic Lawrence shared how he encountered one such woman. In his post shared under his handle @dominiclawrence on April 26, 2026, he described a conversation he had with an elderly woman. Somehow, the discussion took an awkward turn when the man revealed that he had once attended the church while hungover. She immediately pointed out that he had committed two sins. When he heard what the second was, he was left speechless.

The woman approached Lawrence, and they started talking about his religious practices. He revealed that he goes to church, but not often. He added that he sometimes visits on Sundays, but hadn’t been there recently. “I was very hungover,” he admitted while recalling one of the days he went to church. She told him he had committed “two lots of sins.” The man knew what the first was from the conversation, but was confused about the second. “You’re gay, aren't you?” she remarked. “Drunk and gay,” she reiterated, leaving him shocked. Lawrence had no idea how to respond and simply laughed it off.

The exchange could have been a pleasant one, as he was keen to share his experience of going to church. According to him, it was great. The idea of singing hymns and interacting with other believers brought him joy. However, the stranger was fixated on the fact that he was drunk when he went there. She then added to her judgment with a homophobic remark. While Lawrence took it lightly, viewers noted how disrespectful her comment was. @aimee.amina said, “I love that you can find the humor in this, but it really breaks my heart.” @tinabelchershorseposter added, “You couldn’t have been nicer. Why did she have to go there?” @itsmysecret6712 mentioned, “I admire your patience.”

People in the LGBTQ+ community are unfairly judged for their sexual orientation rather than for who they are. In another story, a drama teacher named Michael Neri had to deal with a homophobic parent. The mom criticized the gay man for his lifestyle and choices, and said that she was going to withdraw her kids from his theater class. She also asked that he return the deposit. Neri had an epic response. He first explained that his “sexuality doesn’t affect my ability to teach.”

He went on to share an example to help the parent understand his point. “I'm sure your children's health would come first should they need emergency treatment, or would you need to check their doctor's lifestyle prior to their life-saving operation?” Speaking about her money, he was glad to inform her that he had donated it to an LGBT charity. Everyone is entitled to their own preferences, choices, and lifestyle. However, those things do not define their abilities and skills, nor do they interfere with their potential to be a good professional and human being.
