Man handed over handwritten note to a co-passenger on train and bolted — she wasn't ready for the message inside
Meetings with strangers can result in some of the most heartwarming encounters. A woman who goes by u/FruitoftheJoon shared how a stranger made her day with an unexpected note while she was traveling. Being in public transportation, she didn’t think much of what was happening around her and expected people to be busy with their own things. However, she was shocked when a stranger came up to her with a handwritten note, putting on paper one of the most heartfelt thoughts.
The woman shared a picture of herself holding the note while she was still on the train. She noted that it was a long day at work so she wasn't focused on what other passengers were doing. “I heard paper tearing but I kind of tuned it out as one does on public transportation,” she wrote. To her surprise, in a matter of seconds, a stranger approached her. “When the train door opened, a guy handed me this and bolted,” she said. It could have been concerning and the woman was “confused.” She looked around to try and find him or get an explanation but in vain. The next thought was to take a look at the note. “It immediately brought a smile to my face,” she said.
The stranger had commented on her appearance but not in an objectifying way. Rather, he had something pure to say. The note had just a one-liner — “You look nice. It’s clear that you take pride in your appearance. Keep it up!” Without making it sound creepy, the man thoughtfully penned a sweet message. It’s heartwarming to imagine how he spotted her, thought of giving her a compliment and took the time out to write it and share it with her while on the train. While the woman, like most commuters, was mundanely focused on getting home after work, a simple note turned her day around. It’s magical what just a little kindness can do.
Many people commented, pointing out that it was a delightful experience to have, especially in lieu of the creepy and pestering encounters many have while commuting. The woman, too, shared in a comment, “I have also had creepy dudes in my face as a teenager so I get how it could be gross. This guy maintained a good distance. So much so that I didn't really notice him until he gave me the note,” she said. It was also added that the stranger seemed to be around her age, “mid to late 20s.” “So yeah. It definitely came across as a kind gesture for me,” she remarked.
u/Sara-Sea22 said, “The way he immediately left so it was clear he wasn’t hoping to get anything out of it, he just wanted to make sure you were aware of how nice you looked! Definitely a green flag.” u/TwoOk5044 added, “Aw, he was probably terrified but obviously had to say something. You must look cute today.”
