Having that one survival tip to swear by, one that gets you through almost anything and everything, can be impactful. Bear Grylls, adventurer, writer, TV host and daring personality, revealed that he also has a “mantra” he follows, CNBC Make It reported. The man who had climbed mountains, faced animals and been through the unimaginable noted that there is one thing he relies on for surviving through it all. Before every other hack, equipment and method to save the day, this one factor is his primary need in every adventure he embarks. The valiant man, who also has a regular life, similar to many, uses the same mantra consistently.

Grylls is a former member of the British army’s special forces and is now looked up to as a survival expert. In his show, “Man Vs Wild,” he shares some nail-biting experiences and challenges and how to overcome them. Grylls has seen the unexpected and learned a lot from his experience. It pushed him to develop one mantra that summarizes how to get that second shot at life when faced with something precarious. “My mantra has always been just never give up,” the expert noted. More than a statement, it is a state of mind, a commitment and determination that ultimately makes it a survival tip.

Elaborating further, Grylls said, “I think one of the best things for surviving not only in the jungle but also in everyday life is just, in the morning, choosing your attitude.” He looked back on his adventures and took an instance saying, “So often, I’ve woken up and you’re cold, you’re beaten up, and you’re thirsty, hungry, tired and you don’t feel like attacking the rest of that mountain or that jungle,” he noted. It’s tough, and the lurking danger doesn’t make it any more fun. That’s when this “commitment” to keep going makes all the difference.

“If I had to pick one survival skill to follow me through life and through these expeditions and adventures, it’s that dogged determination, that tenacity, that ‘never say die,’” he remarked. Be it freezing temperatures or financial struggles, wild nights outdoors or a hopeless wallowing feeling, the adventurer urges people, “Whatever’s being thrown at you, [you’re] going to keep moving.” He pointed out that this simple yet tough attitude and its consistency are what helped him through the most ferocious experiences. In one of his recent videos, Grylls shared an inspiring visual.

As he battled weather, currents, creatures, and was pushed to try new and sometimes uncomfortable things, it was his mantra that helped him come through. He said, “Quitting is easy. Persistence is hard. The difference is taking one more step.” In the caption of his post, he added, “Sometimes, the hardest choice you can make is to not give up.” Grylls hopes that it can be a mantra others take back, too. “That fire inside is something we all have, but it gets covered over by the fluff of life,” he explained. “But it’s there and you’ve got to learn to trust it. And, at the heart of it, it’s about tenacity, never giving up,” he continued.
