Man was 'sound asleep' when pet bearded dragon abruptly woke him up — it miraculously saved his life

It has been revealed that pets can be affectionate and useful additions to a person's life. There are ample stories of dogs and cats coming to the rescue of their owners and even saving their lives. However, when it comes to pets like reptiles, there might be some doubts. Astonishingly, in the case of Donald Hale from Federal Way, Washington, his pet bearded dragon, Spike, managed to save his life in a smart and unexpected way, per Local 12 News. Hale was fast asleep in his home when his pet reptile alerted him to a brutal danger in time. Spike’s actions have left many people jaw-dropped while leaving tons of praise.

According to Pet MD, bearded dragons are one of the most popular pet lizard species. They are commonly known as "beardies" and are believed to have great defense mechanisms. One of their popular traits is to flare out the skin underneath their chin when exposed to a threat, causing the portion below the chin to appear darker, like a beard. However, what happened in Hale's case was even more impressive. He mentioned that he had gone for a long run, after which he returned home, where everything was fine. He decided to take melatonin so he could get good sleep. In a shocking turn of events, this sound sleep would have cost him had it not been for Spike.

"I witnessed a miracle right here laying on this couch, because if my dragon didn't wake me up, I wouldn't be here talking to y'all," Hale remarked. He mentioned that two smoke alarms rang after he fell asleep. However, he missed both before Spike somehow realized something was wrong and woke his owner up. "No neighbor came and woke me up. No alarm woke me up. My dragon woke me up. Spike!" Hale proudly exclaimed. The beardie was awake and was supposedly observing the atmosphere. He realized there was trouble and reportedly used his long tail to slap it against Hale, causing him to wake up.

When Hale awoke, he saw smoke coming from his cabinets. "When I opened the cabinet, the pressure caused the smoke to come out," he said. Within seconds, a fire broke out from his cabinet and because he was awake and aware of the situation, he was able to douse it. "I went in there and grabbed something to put the water in, came back and put it out," Hale explained. Many people were left stunned by Spike's alertness and understanding. The story was shared on Bearded Dragon by @AHBD, causing people to share surprising comments.

In another comment, they said, "Time for beardies to step up and rise as service animals." Learning that his pet bearded dragon saved his life. Hale is immensely proud. "He don't make no noise. He don't bark. He don't holler. But he made the loudest noise I ever heard in my life that day. By banging on my face," Hale said.
