Mom checked her 7-year-old daughter’s Google search history — and couldn't stop laughing when she saw the results
As adults, we get so caught up in every single detail, especially our appearance and looks. Without even realizing it, we leave behind the carefree acceptance from our childhood and become super conscious of every trivial thing. A woman named Marissa Guzman was likely also caught up in her own feelings until her 7-year-old daughter transformed her perspective through a Google search. While the mom was closing the tabs on her phone, she noticed, among a regular 7-year-old's searches, an iconic question for Google that left her baffled, Newsweek reported.
The mom noted that her daughter used one of their old phones to watch Kids YouTube. “So I was doing my check-in with the phone and saw she had a lot of tabs open for things like games and coloring pages,” Guzman recalled. In her video, she shared the Google tab with all her recent searches. "I saw Google open, so I wanted to go through all of it to make sure she wasn't searching for anything inappropriate and make sure if she was using the phone, it wasn't for anything bad,” she explained. On the search history, she saw several random prompts that a typical child would be curious about.
One read, “School supplies,” another asked, “What month is June?” Another prompt read, “Is God real?” There were questions about birthday ideas, $5 purses and random things until one caught Guzman off guard. It read, "If my mom's ugly, do I have to be ugly?" The woman was confused and baffled at the same time. She didn’t know whether she should have been offended that she was indirectly called “ugly” or if she should have appreciated the fact that her daughter didn’t say it out loud. "I was shocked but I couldn't help but laugh," Guzman remarked. That’s when she realized something important.
"I think she was trying to figure out how best Google could answer her questions. I guess she couldn't ask me this one to my face to offend me,” the mom suggested. So, she was a little pleased that it was not thrown at her randomly and had to accept that, at the end of the day, kids have their own thoughts and perspectives. It’s part of their maturing and understanding process. "We teach our kids to have thick skin,” she said and rightly so, her 7-year-old refrained from saying it out loud. “I guess it was my turn to laugh it off,” the mom added. Sometimes, little things can get to us but being so conscious and worried about them isn’t always the best idea.
Things get to you if you let them and this was a subtle reminder to the mom and many on the internet. Guzman’s daughter, now a teenager, had finally clarified in a conversation with her mum why she asked that question. "She said it was because of my wrinkles," the mom noted. If she had to fret about it, it wouldn’t have made any difference and would have been pretty futile. People joined the mom in being lighthearted about the hilarious situation. @illylouise said, “Nothing more humbling than our children.” @live.laugh.honk added, “Play this at her graduation.”
