When eight-year-old Brayden's mother noticed period blood stains in her underwear, she did not want to hide them from her son. Instead, the mom, Gee Gee D., chose to show him and explain what it was, teaching him the way to clean it. Her life lesson, as shared on her TikTok @queenn_gee, has been hailed by parents online, as reported by PEOPLE on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

Gee Gee D., a 30-year-old paraeducator substitute who works with children with special needs in Nevada, was doing her laundry when she noticed one of her panties had blood stains. Rather than feeling embarrassed about the situation and trying to hide it from her eight-year-old son, she chose to turn it into an important lesson for him. The mother, who wanted to normalize conversations on periods, wished to start with her son. "One day, he might face that situation as an older brother washing his little sister's clothes, a husband washing his wife's laundry, or even a student at school who notices a girl's blood stain on her pants," she explained.

A 2022 study published by Plan International noted that more than 37% think periods must be kept a secret. The survey interviewed 4,127 boys and young men and found that a jarring 55% viewed the topic as 'dirty,' 33% found it 'embarrassing,' while 38% described it as disgusting. The study underlined the deep-rooted stigma attached to the subject. By addressing the topic with her son, Gee Gee aimed to cultivate the habit of destigmatizing menstruation and making sure such attitudes are not carried into the future.

She called her son to the laundry room and pointed out the blood stain in the washing machine. She then grabbed a bottle of peroxide to show how to remove the blood stain. Gee Gee D., who has often been open to her son about periods, was simply demonstrating that it must be normalized. "Don't freak out if you see it—just take care of it or help if you can," she told her son. Sharing the valuable lesson that she had captured on TikTok, the video showcased the mother teaching her son that it's not okay to bully someone when they have a stain on their clothes. She was seen instructing her son to never shame women for having their periods, while also teaching him how to make them feel comfortable by offering his jacket to hide the stain if needed.

Soon after the post went viral, many users shared their thoughts. @heymelindaK _ wrote, "And friends, this is what we call 'active listening' and 'informative parenting.'" @accordingtojules commented, "The way he is locked in on your words." @WellRoundedPhysician expressed, "Girl, you are raising a man. You are so inspiring." Gee Gee hopes her approach encourages other parents and helps shape boys who grow up compassionate and supportive of women.

@queenn_gee We’ve already had the discussion about what they are and his role. He was helping with laundry so I used it as a teaching. ••• #sons #boys #menstrual #teachingkids #raisingkids ♬ original sound - Gee Gee 🦋
