Mom panicked after seeing 'worst day of my life' on daughter’s calendar — the explanation made her laugh
Kids often interpret serious matters as silly things, and sometimes, their actions can leave parents worried. Threads user Monica (@starstoryastrology) revealed that her daughter had an old-fashioned wall calendar on which she often marked important events and birthdays. However, the mother began panicking after she spotted "worst day of my life" written on it. But upon inquiry, the 9-year-old's explanation left her amused. Sharing the story with Threads users on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the mother noted that the strange explanation left her puzzled.
Monica always observed her nine-year-old daughter marking important events and dates in her old-fashioned calendar in her room. One day, the mother took a peek at it and spotted a marking that freaked her out. On May 12, 2026, the daughter marked the day as "the worst day of my life" in bold letters. When she inquired with her nine-year-old if it was something to do with a test at school, her daughter denied it. However, after insisting several times, her daughter revealed that she was thinking of the rock band American Authors' popular single "Best Day of My Life," and wanted to note the opposite of the song. The random confession left the parent amused.
"Now it's 10:50 a.m. in Australia, and I'm sitting here low-key stressing about it and hoping the day ends without incident," the mother quipped. Adults often question children in hopes of obtaining information, but their responses can often leave them confused. According to a study published in PubMed Central, "Children's developing understanding of language may influence their ability to accurately respond to questions inquiring about their event knowledge, potentially creating misinterpretations in adult-child communication." The study concluded that developmental shifts in children's abilities to answer "Why and How Come" questions are based on their improved language abilities. Although the marking amazed the mother, it created a slight miscommunication between the child and her.
The mom added that she eventually plans to bring up the topic again, later during the week. Monica's post garnered attention from online users who shared their experience with interpreting unusual messages from kids, while others shared vague and creepy incidents similar to what the mom encountered. @vickyq5 wrote, "I would be freaking out too, not going to lie. But maybe she'll let you know more later?" @cazinct remarked, "A 7-year-old asked me about the worst thing that ever happened to me. As I was scrambling my thoughts, he followed up with, ‘Did you ever see a pigeon die or something?’" @kelly.at.the.beach commented, "When my grandma died, the date on her calendar was circled. No appointment or writing. It was just circled."
