Mom warned daughter after spotting neighbor’s strange move at the fence — one video call proved her fears right
Sometimes, when humans miss the signs, canine companions pick up on them. Threads user Lisa L Tomlinson (@hail_lisafer) was leaving her daughter's home when she noticed her neighbor acting weird around her house fence. Something felt off, and her mom warned her to be careful about the man. After she left, she received a video call from her daughter's phone that informed her of the most shocking news. Sharing the story with Threads users on Sunday, May 10, 2026, Tomlinson revealed how one of their family members' timely interventions avoided a huge disaster, and kept her daughter safe.
Tomlinson and her husband were leaving their daughter's home when a couple who were her neighbors pulled over. As Tomlinson's daughter wished the woman Happy Mother's Day, the man approached her and began conversing with her. However, she noticed that the man was putting his hands over the waist-high chain-link fence, which made her realize that he was trying to get her daughter's dogs accustomed to his scent. After the stranger left, she asked her daughter to be careful around him. When they returned to their home, they received a video call from their daughter's phone that stopped them cold. Her paranoid-looking daughter revealed that the man tried to come over and put his hands over the fence again, but this time her dog Frankie bit him.
"Frankie has never bitten anyone before!" her daughter exclaimed. While the mother was relieved that her daughter was protected by her dog, she also noted that her instincts about the stranger's intentions turned out to be true. "I still worry, I'm a mom, but I feel good knowing she has some protection, and a couple of real good boys," she noted. According to a study from the Kyoto University in Japan, it has been found that dogs are pretty good at picking up on human behavior. The researchers noted that dogs can spot a liar, or that dogs steer clear from trust deceptive signals and people. Researcher Akiko Takaoka shared with Virgin Radio, "Dogs have more sophisticated social intelligence than we thought, evolved selectively in their long life history with humans."
Tomlinson's post gained massive attention from online users who shared similar experiences of being saved by their canine companions. @futurebillionaire wrote, "Please have her get a camera. I got the ick and chills from this post. He may try to hurt the dogs. Run a background check on him." @jerseygirl_vicki remarked, "Never dismiss how a dog feels about a person. I made that mistake and it almost cost me my life." @eneliisarrowsmith wrote, "Good boys! Get cameras up. Report prowling to police. And check the yard for suspicious food, etc., before letting the dogs out. Dude's gonna want to hurt Frankie."
