New student ignored the camera when a boy approached her during halftime — then a reposted Instagram video revealed what was really happening
Joining a new school can make events like a simple football game feel like a chance to meet new friends. One young content creator, Hana, thought the same and went to watch a game. During halftime, a boy approached her with a microphone while someone filmed her, but she did not think much of it. The next day, a reposted Instagram video made her see that moment very differently. She later shared the story on TikTok on her account @legitwaffle on July 20, 2026.
The young woman went to the bathroom during halftime, and as she returned, a boy approached her and said that his friend wanted to talk to her. All those around burst into laughter, and she noticed another person recording her using an iPhone 14. She understood she was being filmed but still did not think much of it at the time. She continued watching the game. However, the following day, she was in the car with her family when she checked her Instagram and suddenly came across a reposted video. That was when she discovered they were filming her to mock her appearance. She described seeing herself being called a "fatty," along with other comments, leaving her shocked.
She had not known what the recording would be used for when she stood there with her friends. She was still new to the friend group, making small talk and trying to break the ice. For Hana, the discovery changed how she remembered that entire night. The experience showed how quickly a normal school memory could become hurtful. Body shaming can have a lasting impact on someone, regardless of their age. In another recent incident, a woman stopped at a gas station before work to grab a protein drink when a stranger made hurtful remarks about her appearance. He called her "fat" and told her to move because she was in his way. He then looked at her and called her "disgusting," leaving her speechless. She said she had faced bullying as a child, but hearing such cruel words as an adult affected her deeply. The encounter stayed on her mind even after he left.
In this scenario, however, rather than letting the stranger's words define her, the woman decided to use the experience as a reason to encourage kindness. She reminded others that everyone has feelings and that someone's weight does not make them less deserving of respect. She urged everyone to make someone's day better through simple actions, such as a smile, offering a sincere compliment, or wishing someone well. She added, "We need that right now more than anything."
