Passenger manspread into her space, then refused to let her grab her bag after landing — his rush to leave ended in instant karma
Flights can test patience when you are not comfortably seated, especially when the person next to you does not respect personal space. Instagram user Sara, who goes by @serendipitywdtr, shared a video on Thursday, July 30, 2026, explaining how the man sitting beside her made her flight home from a conference increasingly uncomfortable. She said he repeatedly invaded her space and even refused to move so she could grab her backpack after landing. But his actions soon caught up with him in a way she never expected.
Sara said the man, who was seated in the middle, immediately spread his legs into both neighboring seats, taking up much of the legroom. She didn't mind at first because she usually rests her feet on her bag or uses a foot sling. But things changed when he began pushing his thigh into her seat. Before the plane landed, Sara politely asked him to move his foot so she could grab her backpack before passengers started getting up. According to her, the man refused, saying, "I said no," and waited until the last possible moment to leave his seat. He then rushed off the plane, forgetting to take his own backpack from the overhead bin — a moment she described as instant karma.
Sara said that before her flight home, she had been on another unpleasant flight where she was seated next to a man who smelled of vomit and alcohol while continuing to drink beer throughout the journey. But her flight back home left a lasting impression. Instead of giving up her seat, Sara said she held her ground. By the end of the two-and-a-half-hour flight, she felt the man had become visibly annoyed that she hadn't moved over.
Explaining the man's behavior, Sara said that he remained seated until almost everyone had started leaving before suddenly jumping up and rushing off the plane. It forced her to scramble for her belongings exactly as she had hoped to avoid. Fortunately, other passengers who had overheard the exchange waited patiently and even offered to help while she gathered her bags. It was only then that she realized the man had been so eager to leave that he had forgotten his own backpack.
An entitled passenger invading your personal space on a flight by spreading their legs or taking over the armrest is becoming increasingly common. In another story, Instagram creator Lam said an 11-hour British Airways flight became stressful after the 6'5" man seated beside her repeatedly disturbed her personal space. She shared that he took over the armrest and much of her legroom, even after she asked him to move and called for a flight attendant. Lam said she was most frustrated by how she found herself excusing the man's behavior instead of feeling entitled to the space she had paid for. Like Sara, she was left feeling uncomfortable because another passenger refused to respect her personal space.
