In a recent story, Daniel Romano, a pizzeria owner from the Bronx, saw a woman outside his shop taking food from the trash. In that moment, instead of walking away, he decided to do something different. "I grabbed her by the hand, and I led her to the pizzeria," Romano commented on the incident. The woman immediately started crying, but the owner reassured her with kind words, "Don’t cry, eat. This is not a problem. I don’t want you eating out of garbage." Seeing her emotional reaction made him realize hunger isn't just about food, but also about dignity. That experience made him want to do more, so he put up a handwritten sign in his shop window that read, "To the people eating out of my garbage, I have more love for you than you think. Please come in and tell me you’re hungry. I will forever give you a slice and fresh water to drink."
Romano believed everyone deserved kindness and respect, commenting on how there is so much hatred and negativity already present in the world. "Why not put a smile on someone’s face?" he added. His motivation also comes from his childhood, when his mother used to tell him how a "desperate person will always make a better decision on a full stomach than on an empty." This simple thought stayed with him and eventually pushed him to feed others in need. His compassion showed that small gestures can have a big impact, not just on the person being helped but on the whole community.
People from all over the country heard about what Romano did and wanted to help as well. His friend Tony Cucci also commented on what a good-hearted person Romano is and how his simple but powerful gesture is indeed the coolest thing. Romano shared that people from Texas, Alaska, and other places are now sending money and buying slices from him for those who need them. The incident proved that even little kindness can spread far and inspire others to do the same.
