Pregnant woman was criticized after landing a lead role — then one foreign colleague quietly stepped in. 10 years later, she told him what it meant

The judgment was so terrible that she avoided going to work for a few days until the man noticed and intervened.

When a stranger’s small, seemingly mundane actions make a difference to our lives, we carry that gratitude in our hearts for a long time. A mom named Kat Kamalani shared a heartfelt experience in a Facebook post on October 22, 2026. She recounted her time when she was pregnant and had just started as a lead at her company. During that period, she faced a lot of judgment and doubt. However, one colleague supported her with simple gestures that made a significant difference. He later left the United States, but she never forgot how he made her feel. 10 years later, she chanced upon him and finally told him what he had done.

The employees were unhappy that an outsider got hired for the higher role, and her coworkers kept giving her a tough time. She’d leave work in tears, eat lunch alone in her car, and fall apart while trying her best to stay strong for her baby. Amid these challenges, there was a man, Suraj, who stepped in. He, too, had just moved to America on a work visa and was navigating life and culture. When he noticed how Kamalani was being treated, he decided to change it. “He started sitting next to me in meetings. Making conversation. Finding little ways to make sure I felt included,” she explained. After his visa expired, he went back, but the impact he left stayed with the woman, and 10 years later, when she went to the gym one day, there he was. “I got so emotional seeing you!” she told him.

She explained that there were days she didn’t even want to go to work until he stepped in. “That feeling that you made me feel...safe in a workplace…you’re amazing,” Kamalani remarked. He didn’t do much; he only extended hospitality, but it became life-changing. After they befriended each other at work, they would go home and tell their respective spouses about each other. Suraj’s wife would send her home-cooked Indian food, while Kamalani’s husband would cherish every bit of it with her. After catching up, the duo shared an embrace, and the woman reiterated the one message that stuck with her through the decade — “Changing someone’s life doesn’t have to be a grand gesture.”

Workplaces are often too rigid, but when you blend humanity in professional interactions, the result can be beautiful. In a similar workplace story, a man decided to approach a coworker and have a casual chat after noticing he was too quiet and always alone. He knew he loved books and games, and often asked him what he was reading or playing. Eventually, they started talking more and more and became buddies at work. At an office party, the man brought his mom as a plus-one, and she finally met the only friend her son had made. She told the coworker how his simple initiative changed her son’s life. From having quick, isolated lunches to giving one-word responses when asked about work, the man was genuinely excited about his days. He finally had some color in an otherwise dark and bland reality. Just a simple chat worked wonders, and it only shows how simple acts can turn lives around.
