She invited him to the salon before their first date and handed him a $120 nail bill — his request to pamper her further concealed his real plan
Certain women may expect gestures like holding the door, paying the bill, and so on, on a first date. Yet, there has to be a boundary to these expectations. A TikTok user, Christian, who goes by @christiancooks99, shared a post on May 28, 2026, revealing how his first meeting with a Hinge match quickly took an absurd turn. The woman asked him to drive to a nail salon to pick her up before telling him to pay $120 for her nails. He then suggested she get add-ons and do a grand, expensive manicure since she was already there. Little did she know he had something cooking behind that request.
Christian’s date requested that he pick her up, but as he drove to the address, he realized there was no apartment. The woman asked him to come into the nail salon instead, and then told him, “It’s going to be $120; is that okay for you?” It was at that moment that he realized that he was expected to pay for her nails too. He hesitantly agreed and waited for her to finish. Before she was done, the man suggested she go all out. He encouraged her to get nail art, add-ons, and more. Impressed by his generosity, she took him up on the offer. Midway, he mentioned that he had forgotten his wallet and had to get it from his car. Once he walked out, he drove away.
“Why did you think, if I was offering to take you out to dinner, I was going to pay $120 plus tip for you to get a pedicure?” he asked. Eventually, the man ended up having a solo meal at the restaurant. He mentioned that the woman kept texting him, but he blocked her shortly afterward. Having expectations isn’t wrong, but acting entitled to extravagant gestures while bringing nothing to the table is an immediate turnoff. Christian mentioned that the way his date texted was confusing, even though she had matched with him. That became evident when she never mentioned meeting at a salon or expecting him to pay for her nails.
While people have certain non-negotiables on first dates, basic decency and respect for another person should not be overlooked. In a similar incident, a man took a woman out to dinner and expected her to go home with him. He went as far as to say that he would not pay the bill until she agreed. When she refused, things got heated to the point where he started calling her “weird” and other derogatory names.
His date was horrified, but fortunately, a stranger came to her rescue. While she was shaking, trying to figure out how to get out of the situation, a man from another table sent a message to the server. “The gentleman from a table right there just covered your check,” the server told her. The woman was relieved and grateful. Sometimes we are able to get ourselves out of an unexpected situation. Other times, an impromptu act of kindness from a stranger saves the day.
