I went on a date. Everything was going fine until the guy got a dessert sent over, there was compliments of some girl at the next table. We looked at her, she looked at us. And here's the thing, I can objectively see that she's prettier than me, skinnier, brown, you know, with…

Sophia went on a date with a man, and everything seemed to be going well until he received a dessert from a woman at the next table. "We looked at her, she looked at us. And here's the thing, I can objectively see that she's prettier than me, skinnier, brown, you know, with those trendy lashes and lips," she wrote. When her date asked what he should do, she told him that it was just their first date, and if he liked her, he could go introduce himself to her. The man immediately went up to the woman, and Sophia chose to leave the place.
Feeling disappointed and frustrated, Sophia went to a nearby park, sat on a swing, and spent some time alone. Thirty minutes later, she received a call from her date. While Sophia had left the place, her date failed to notice her leaving. She wrote, "He calls me half an hour later like, 'Where are you?' Meaning he was talking to her that whole half hour and didn't even notice I was gone." Lamenting her frustration, Sophia swore that she was "done going on dates."
A 2002 study published in the Journal of Personality analyzed the role of self-respect in close relationships. It emphasized the results from a study on marital relationships, which revealed that a person's self-respect is associated with both their own and their partner's pro-relationship behavior. The study also highlights that self-respect is both directly and indirectly associated with an individual's behavior. By choosing to walk out after witnessing a humiliating response from her date, Sophia chose self-respect over her feelings.
Sophia's post attained massive appreciation from fellow X users. @RachelleAkuffo remarked, "When he asked you what he should do, he was already showing he's spineless. The girl who sent the dessert over is vile for intruding on your date. You deserve much better. I'd have sneezed on the dessert and her on the way out because I'm allergic to nonsense." @cencyy_ cheered, "Girl, you're already a winner for not going back to him. Your own person will come." @kayloni mentioned, "If a man wants to leave, let him. You deserve better! You didn't lose, you only gained."
