She thought expecting her to pay for his coffee on first date was the biggest red flag — until what he hid under his hoodie made her walkout
First dates often come with small warning signs, but they might turn into stories you never forget. A woman on TikTok shared one such experience that began with mild confusion, transitioned to discomfort, and eventually led her to walk out. The video, posted by Jezabel (@jezacat) on December 20, 2025, caught attention for how quickly a simple coffee meet-up went wrong in ways she did not expect.
In the video, Jezabel begins by saying, “Let me tell you about the second-worst date I have been on.” She explains that she matched with a man who asked her out for a coffee date the next morning, which she thought sounded “so wholesome.” Looking back, she admitted she should have noticed early signs, including the fact that he shared the same name as her last partner. She arrived at the café early while coming from a prior commitment and messaged him to let him know. When he walked in, they made eye contact, but instead of greeting her, he went straight to the line without saying hello. However, she joined him, they hugged, and made small talk while ordering.
Then things took an awkward turn at the counter. She ordered an iced vanilla latte, while he ordered a hot matcha latte and a blueberry muffin. When the cashier gave the total, Jezabel said he looked at her “as if, are you going to pay or am I going to pay?” Shocked, she decided to return to the table. He followed soon after, yawning loudly. When she suggested rescheduling, looking at how tired the man seemed, he replied, “No, I really needed this coffee.” As they talked, she noticed his appearance, including a cold sore, a hickey, and deep eye bags, thinking to herself, “Is this guy okay?”
The conversation never settled. He kept yawning and complaining about being tired. When Jezabel asked about his tattoos, he pulled up his hoodie's sleeve, revealing scabs all over his arm. At that point, she felt uneasy and said she wanted to leave, even though only 15 minutes had passed. When their drinks arrived, her discomfort grew as she watched him drink matcha, letting foam sit on his sore. “I’m getting nauseous. I want the date to end,” she said. He later shared that he had been in a car accident months earlier and was still on pain medication, making her realize where things were heading.
About 30 minutes in, he said he needed a vape break due to the cold January weather. Jezabel tried to leave politely as soon as they stepped out together, but he pulled her in for a hug. “I did not want to touch that man,” she admitted. She left quickly and decided to block him the second she sat in the car. But moments later, he texted saying he felt bad the date ended soon and wanted to meet for dinner next time. The message left her completely appalled, thinking, "Were you just looking for meals out of me? Because you were about to let me buy your muffin and your matcha." Reflecting on it years later, she joked, “I couldn’t drink matcha for a long time.”
