Shopper perplexed at old woman asking to ‘borrow his height’— seconds later, he leaves with the ‘best reward’

Tall people often find themselves in situations where they have to grab items from a high surface for others or clean items placed higher up. A man who was shopping at a store had a similar experience when a stranger approached him. The shopper, who goes by u/KorenSolust on Reddit, shared an interaction that took him by surprise at first but ended up becoming a wholesome memory.

The man, on his outing, came across a “little old lady.” “Got back from the store, cute interaction,” he wrote in the beginning. Since he appeared taller than the woman, she asked him for help. “Hello, can I borrow your height?” she asked him. He gladly agreed and offered to assist the woman with her needs. “Can you grab me two boxes of that stuff from the top of the freezer section?” the lady politely requested. The man picked up and gave her the boxes and was about to go on his way when the woman stopped him for something wholesome. She thanked him for his help and kindness and casually handed a packet of jelly beans to him.

“Hell yes! Best reward!” the shoppers remarked. "Benefits of being a tall person," the caption read. It was a simple gesture for the man but it meant a great deal to the woman and people loved the outcome. Some, who related to the woman's height problems, thanked the man for helping her. u/SuzCoffeeBean wrote, “I’m not old-old yet but on behalf of all short ladies, I thank you for your service. I usually look for someone with good vibes before asking so double good on you.” u/TinyNightLight added, “I may start carrying jellybeans with me. I’m 5 feet and probably old enough to be a little old lady to someone.”

Some tall people also opined that those with good height should always help short ones in similar spaces. u/torncallus said, “Unwritten rule of the tall....thou shalt reach the things the short ones cannot! I wish I had jellybeans.” Another user wrote, “Many many times, I have seen smaller women eyeing me up in the grocery aisle. I typically approach them and say, 'It looks like you want to borrow my height. It’s so easy to be nice so why not be.” In a similar instance, an employee came to the rescue of a distressed shopper and ended up saving her life. 78-year-old Mary Ann Disanzo was shopping at Walmart when she started feeling light-headed, per Herald Tribune.

Getting more and more dizzy, she approached the counter for help. Walmart employees Suzan Martucci and Tanya Frener spotted her and asked if she was okay. She blacked out and collapsed to the ground. The employees quickly approached her and began administering life-saving care. Emergency services were soon called and Disanzo received the necessary treatment. “It changed my whole life. It gave me my whole life. I would be dead if it wasn’t for these two people,” the elderly woman said. Thanks to the employees’ help, the woman was saved.
